Chapter 57
"I don't think we can come, we have a doctors' appointment today," I balance the phone between my shoulder and my ear.
"All six of you?" He asks, still not believing me. "Yes, Hobi. All six of us," I put my shoes on.
"But you promised," He sadly says. "I know, I did," I sigh. "But I don't think I can ask the manager to reschedule the appointment, we've asked him to do that so many times already,"
"Don't promise if you're not going to live up to it," He furiously says. I can already imagine the way lips are curved upwards and his nostrils flaring.
"I'm sor-" Before I try convincing, he hangs up on me.
I sigh and look at my phone in guilt. He wanted me to come to their concert today and I promised him I'll be there when he asked me last evening.
But in the morning, our manager told us we had our regular health checkups and I couldn't say no because this already happened a week ago.
I call Namjoon because I'm pretty sure they're both working on a song together and even while talking to Hobi now, I could hear Namjoon singing in the back. I press the call button and he picks up on the 4th ring.
"What's up? " He greets. "Hey, so Hobi is pissed at me because I told him I can't come to watch the performance today," I play with my fingers.
"Yeah, I can see," He shortly laughs. From the back, I hear Hobi, something along the lines of 'is that Ava?' and Namjoon replies in the affirmative.
Hobi then, I'm assuming grabbed the phone from Namjoon because this is what I hear from the other side of the phone.
"We don't talk to people who break promises," He angrily hisses and cuts the call. I scream and grit my teeth in frustration.
The other girls in the room look at me weirdly. "What?" I yell at them and slam the door after exiting the room without listening to what they had to say.
I go straight to the car without waiting for anybody, despite the protests coming from the girls behind.
I sit at the back in the corner, crossing my arms above my chest and start swearing at myself for being a bad friend. The girls come after 5 minutes or so. Sadie sits to my left and Amara to her left.
"You want to talk ab-?" She starts. "No!" I snap. "Jeez, okay," She raises her hands in surrender.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today," She mutters and I frown at her.
"Who's the first person to go?" I ask out loud. "Me," Zoe partially raises her hand, her eyes glued to her phone.
"Exchange with me," I simply say. She turns back to look at me with a bored expression. "Why will I do that?"
"Because," I mumble. She cocks her eyebrow, waiting for me to explain further. "I promised Hobi I'd come to the concert today but now I can't go because of this stupid checkup. He's mad and won't talk to me," I complain.
"If I can't be there when it starts, maybe if I finish this quickly, I'll be able to make it when it's halfway through or something," She rolls her eyes upwards and hums as she thinks.
"Please," I put my hands together and plead. "Please, please, please," I repeat. "Okay fine stop!" She covers her ears.
"You can go first, stop being annoying," She scolds. "Thanks," I brightly smile.
After the car comes to a stop, I push the other girls away and run out of the car, into the hospital. "Don't fall," Minjae screams.
"I won't," I put my hand up without turning back. The second I say this, I trip on a small step, landing on my ass.
