As autumn comes to California, with it comes tad cooler temperatures even though it's not as cool compared to the East Coast this time of year, which Callie was used to. Going to the beach and not having to wear a jacket was something new to her. In fact,  going to the beach in general in early October was pretty new.

Of course she still found herself rather homesick if she was honest for she was missing her friends, especially Mariana, her old school, and just the busyness of the Bronx and city in general. Callie knew she was a city girl and initially she was excited about moving to California which included the best weather, beach and sand. But now it was wearing off and she missed the dirt, grime and life she had.  Most of all she missed her relationship with her mother which seemed nonexistent now for they bumped heads daily.

Of course she wanted to tell her about AJ, since there was a time in her life that she told Stef everything,  but that was out of the question completely for Stef and Lena said dating was NOT allowed right now. Nothing seemed to be allowed and the more rules she tacted on the more Callie felt repressed.

She did and right now Stefanie was her only source of information in terms of boys and any advice in terms of sex. Even if over the past few weeks she thought more and more about talking to Lena but shyed away from it fearing she would tell her mother.

Blasting the new Tears for Fears song, Everybody Wants The Rule, she quickly threw her makeup in her backpack along with a few books.  Of course the library story was still working for now but she knew sooner or later she would have to come up with something else. Stef wasn't dumb she knew and would catch on sooner or later that something was up, if she didn't already, as Stefanie came walking down the steps.

"Ready?" She asks smiling as Callie threw her last book in her bag.

"Yup! Let me just tell Mama we are leaving." She says as the two girls head upstairs seeing Lena making dinner for tonight. Tess would join them later along with Julius for they liked to eat dinner together at least once a week as friends. "Mama! We  are headed to the library now."

"Ok honey. Just please be back in time for dinner tonight.  No exceptions you two."

"We know. Love you." Callie says wrapping her arms around Lena's neck as the woman smiles hugging her back. "You're the best Mocha!"  She plants a kiss on the woman's cheek as both girls run off to the library.

But of course that wasn't the plan as it never was as Callie hooked up with AJ like always running over to Pacific Beach.  The two had been going steady for a month now and Callie couldn't be happier. She really couldn't as the two held hands walking along the shoreline.

Callie smiles as she watches the surfers catch some waves. "So, I never asked you if you surfed or not."

"No, you did not. I was wondering if you were gonna ask me to surf with you at that party," AJ laughs as Callie stops.

"Nooooo, I'm awful! You'd laugh at me for sure! Like I'm really really bad! I mean I'm a city girl. I like the beach and water and all, but I'm so clumsy."

"That's ok, city girl! But I would not laugh at ya! No reasons too. And yes, I have surfed a few times, but I haven't so much anymore since my grandmother's health has gone down hill, I just got a job at the little grocery store around the corner from my house."

"Oh really? I didn't realize! When did you start working?"

"Two weeks ago. But they only have been giving me like ten hours. I wanted more, but I guess my age or something. I don't know. Maybe I can find a second job or something."

The two walk a little bit more as Callie stops them again and places her hands on his broad shoulders. "I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother, AJ. Is it really bad?"
