"I bet I can beat you on that!" I yelled at Hoist as I walked to Sparky, my beautiful white sim-horse.
"Bring it on," Hoist smiles as he climbed on his horse.
I took off, leaving my dust. I could hear Hoist coughing. Before he could take off, the sim was shut down.
"Recruits, meet at Hero Hall this instant," Professor Heatwave's voice echoed. We dashed into the hall just in time. Despite being a human, I was tasked to be paired up with Hoist for the entire day to learn about the Rescue Bots. Later, I have to write a boring 1000-word report for school and another script for my speech sharing my experience. This is plain stupid.
"Today, we have a very special guest who will be joining us in classes. Meet Professor Bumblebee," Professor Heatwave announces. Wedge and I squealed, but the only difference is that I squealed louder than him.
The recruits had to do checkup today on their tools. Then, they had to be paired up. "Since (Y/N) is tasked to pair up with Hoist, she will be with him," Professor Bumblebee said. Medix with Hot Shot, Whirl with Wedge and finally, Hoist and I. The first to "accomplish" the checkup was Wedge. Whirl had to conduct checkup with Medix.
"(Y/N)?" Hoist called out, retracting his winch. "Can you help me check my other winch at my back? Just use this scanner."
I grabbed the scanner and pressed a button. It produced a laser scanning through Hoist. "Looks like you need a replacement, Hoist," I declared as I turned off the scanner. "I'll go get it."
Professor Heatwave walked in to check on our progress. I had just grabbed Hoist's new winch from his berth. "Where is (Y/N)?" I heard Professor Heatwave call out.
"I'm here, sir. Sorry, I went to take Hoist's winch while he helps Medix check up on Hot Shot," I replied as I ran towards Hoist. A wet, soapy sponge on the floor found its way to my legs. I slipped.
Hoist saw me slipping. Professor Heatwave failed to catch me. I was close to slipping into a table full of sharp tools needed for replacing a part. I shut my optics, bracing for impact.
I felt warm servos on my waist. I turned around. There was Hoist, hugging me tightly from behind as Hot Shot took away the sponge. I kept panting. "Hoist... can't... breathe!" I squealed.
"Sorry! I forgot that humans have to breathe," he said, blushing a little.
"Is everyone alright?" Professor Heatwave asked full of concern.
"I'm in one piece thanks to Hoist," I said, chuckling.
"We better get (Y/N) to the medic bay for a checkup herself," Professor Heatwave suggested.
Before I could convince them I was alright, sharp pain travelled into my veins. I squealed. I looked down. My ankle was sprained.
"I'll get her there," Hoist said.
He carefully picked me up as if I was fragile. "No need to panic, Hoist. I'll be fine," I said.
"I'm so sorry that I asked you to take that part for me," Hoist sighs.
"Don't blame yourself. Accidents happen. That is what my parents... and you, taught me."
"R... really? I taught you that?"
"Yup. Remember that horse race we kept doing again and again? Both of us kept tripping, but we laughed it off anyway."
"I thought I gave you a bad memory here."
I shrugged. "You didn't. In fact, you were amazing! I can't wait to stay here and let you be my mentor!"
He opened his optics wide and stopped his steps. "You are planning on staying here?"
I nodded. I was on my last year of college. No way am I spending my time working on my father's horse-selling business. I rather use my skills to rescue people. Who rides horses these days?
"That is so awesome!" Hoist exclaims as he pulls out a huge, adorable smile.
"Get me to the medic bay, will you, cowboy?" I said.
"Totally."
