"Chaseeeeee~"
"Not now, love."
You cling onto the policebot's digit. "You're always busy."
"I need to complete today's reports by eight o'clock sharp," Chase informed you as he planted a gentle kiss on your head. "Be patient, dear."
"But you would go out on your patrol ten minutes after you report is due," you whined. "Ten minutes is too short."
Chase had thought that it was better than nothing. He wanted so badly to remind you that there are some couples that don't spend any time together. However, mentioning that to you would make you take it the wrong way, to which he doesn't intend to.
"My apologies," Chase put away his datapad. "I will attempt to make more time for you."
You pouted. "You say that all the time. Either you won't be able to, or you would be able to but it would be midnight."
Chase glanced at the time. He thought to himself for a brief moment before carefully placing you on the ground. "I will return shortly," he announced before taking his leave.
"Can't you just email your report and be done with it?" you asked.
"I need to have it scanned into the database," Chase replied. "It does not have an email nor the function to receive and send emails."
Everything sounded like excuses to you. Chase was often busy and never understood the definition of taking a break. It seemed like he prioritised his work more than you - his work was more important than you. You knew he never had ill intentions... hopefully.
You sighed. "Fine."
A few moments later, the policebot returned. You stared up at him as he walked past you. You cleared your throat loudly to attract his attention.
He left the bunker without an answer.
"Am I just invisible to you?" you yelled. "Chase!"
No respond. Chief Burns came out from the elevator in his sleeping attire. All your attention was at the platform as Chase flipped a switch for it to elevate to ground level.
"(Y/N), it's getting late. You should head to rest," Chief reminded. "You don't wanna be late for the memorial tomorrow."
"I will return, do not fret, love," he promised.
You wailed louder. You knew that this mission would be his last. He still has a lot to live for. All of your dreams with him shattered into tiny pieces as he let go of your hand. You scrambled to pick up all the pieces, but in the end you couldn't catch up with him.
"Let him go, (Y/N)," Heatwave advised in a deep tone.
You sobbed as you fell to your knees. Time stood still as you watched your beloved sprint away into the distance. His sprint was hesitant but firm. He understood what he was doing and hoped that you would as well. It was not the ending he had pictured in his helm when he was studying in the academy, but better than letting his team - his family die. One sacrifice should slow down the Velgrox a few moments for the others to escape and regroup.
You felt a digit patting your head.
"He won't want us to be spotted either," the firebot reminded. "Stop crying, we're leaving now."
"I can't leave him by himself, he's going to die!" you cried out.
"I order you te stop crying and-"
