Chapter 12: The Birthday

The adoption was official on September the 12th, and its the thirteenth now. Wynonna is officially Nigel and Eliza's mother now, instead of their sister. She's beyond thrilled.

She and Jasper have been doing amazing. Nigel likes him and Eliza absolutely loves him. Jasper promised not to mess with Nona or the kids' emotions, no matter how they feel.

Wynonna is now watching as Bella eats a slice of the birthday cake she made. She's eating quickly even though she has a good hour before she has to leave. Wyn frowns when she realizes she'd rather meet Edward early than spend time with her family.

"I... I'm gonna go see Esme, and help her at the house," Wynonna says. "Uncle Charlie, are you sure you're okay with the kids?"

"Wynonna, I've got them," Charlie assures his niece. "You go on."

Wynonna smiles and she leaves the house. She shoots out a web and she swings through the woods until she reaches the Cullens house. She lands in the yard, right in front of Jasper. He jumps a little but grins when he sees his blood singer.

He actually grabs Wyn by the face and he presses his cold lips against hers, unlike their first kiss a couple months ago. This one holds more emotion and passion in it as he deepens the kiss ever so slightly, not daring to breathe so much as a small whiff of Wynonna while he's this close to her.

Esme watches quietly from the balcony with a grin on her face. She's so proud of Jasper and how well he's been doing with Wyn. Alone with her and with the others around. She's glad he's able to be around her.

Jasper finally pulls away and he stares into Wynonna's eyes and he smiles adoringly. "That was great."

"It was," Wynonna replies. "A very welcoming surprise, Jasper."

Jasper pulls her toward the house. "Your uncle have Nigel and Eliza?"

"Yep, he agreed to babysit while we set up for the party Alice is throwing."

"I forgot about that," Jasper muses. "This will be a fun day," he adds with sarcasm.

"Oh, you can be sarcastic, mr. Hale," Wynonna muses as they walk inside. "I'd never imagine that if I didn't hear it."

Jasper playfully, lightly shoves Wyn, earning a laugh as they head upstairs to see Esme.

             It's nearing seven in the evening now, Alice and Wynonna have been working on decorations ever since school let out. Wyn and Alice have become fairly close, but nowhere near like she is with Esme.

             Alice has just went upstairs to get Edward and Bella. The pixie-like vampire has somehow managed to convince Bella to wear a dress so when the brunette comes down in a navy green dress, Wynonna was immediately impressed with Alice, and told her good job.

            Carlisle hugs Bella when she reaches the bottom of the stairs. "Sorry about all this. We tried to reign Alice in."

               "Like that's even possible," Esme coos and she gives Bella a quick hug. "Happy birthday, Bella."

             Suddenly, a flash goes off and it's Alice taking a picture of Edward and Bella. Bella looks at her wirh a raised eyebrow, Alice claims that she found it in her bag. Jasper is standing behind Wynonna, calmed by Nona's scent, actually.

Emmett nudges Edward with a smirk. "Dating an older woman, hot," he comments and gets a sharp elbow into his ribs. "What?"

"It's time for presents!" Alice chirps; Wynonna and the kids gave Bella their gifts to her this morning.

Rosalie steps forward and gives her a small box wrapped with silver paper. "It's a necklace. Alice picked it out." She rejoins Nona's side and Bella smiles awkwardly.

Bella sees Jasper standing behind her cousin and she waves a little. He nods in greeting as he steps slightly closer to Wyn. Alice shoves Bella into Edward and declares that they show the love before taking a picture. Alice then pulls her to the table for more presents and it has cake.

"Alice, Wyn and I are the only ones who eat cake," Bella claims. "That think could feed fifty."

"Hope you're hungry," Alice chirps. "Here, this one's from Emmett."

The crowd surrounds Bella. Wynonna grabs Jasper's hand and she stays beside him. Jasper releases her hand and moves in behind Wynonna and he buries his face into the crease between her neck and shoulder, he inhales deeply, taking in her intoxicating yet calming scent.

Bella opens the gift and finds a box for a car radio. She notices it's empty when she shakes it slightly. She looks at Emmett, confusion written all over her face as she thanks him, unsure of how exactly to react to this precise gift.

"Already installed it in your truck," Emmett states.

"Here," Wynonna says as she walks forward and hands Bella a gift bag. "You left before I could give it to you this morning."

Bella digs through it and she finds a cross shaped pillow. It's a pillow Bella's been wanting since she was a kid. Wynonna bought it while in Phoenix, after saving Bella's life from James. Jasper and Alexander brought her to the store.

"You've wanted that pillow since you were a kid," Wynonna claims. "I got it while in Phoenix."

Bella steps forward and she actually hugs her cousin, making Edward smile slightly. "Thank you, Wyn," she whispers and she pulls away.

"Open mine!"

Bella begins to open Alice's well wrapped gift and she cuts her finger. She looks up at the sound of an animalistic growl. She sees Carlisle and Emmett grabbing Jasper.

"Jas, Jas, look at me!" Wynonna urges as she grabs his face, the dark eyed vampire meets her eyes.

Carlisle and Emmett slowly release Jasper after Edward goes to a bleeding Bella, he threw her into the glass table holding the cake and presents. Jasper engulfs Wyn in a hug, his face buried in her neck, calming down at the scent of her blood. His hands clench onto the back of Nona's dress as he breaths deeply.

"That's... amazing," Rosalie whispers as she stares at them. "She calmed him down."

"Wynonna, can you bring Jasper outside?" Carlisle asks in a soft voice.

Wynonna nods and she rubs Jasper's hand before heading on outside. Jasper grabs her face once they're on the outskirts of the yard and he presses their lips together, holding her close as he kisses her. A kiss full of love and passion and fear.

A kiss that sends chills all through Wynonna.
