Chapter 39: Baby time

((( Wynonna Ryder's POV)))

             They always said that labor was painful. The contractions are terrible, but still far apart. I've been in this hospital for a good twenty-four hours now. It's August 13th, my official due date and the wedding of my cousin and Edward.

            I hate that I can't be there, but this is better. And because I can't make it, I made jasper go so he could film it for me. Paul's here, as he promised he would be. He won't leave my side, until the baby's born or unless rhe pack or Rachel needs him but Rach said if she did, she'd call her dad because Paul's baby's gonna be born soon.

             Paul uses a cold, wet wash cloth to wipe the sweat from my forehead on the morning of August the 13th, and suddenly, my stomach clenches and another contraction hits. It's the second one within three minutes.

          "That one wasn't far from the other," Paul points out. "Should I get dr. Julian?"

            When I nod, Paul hurries out of the room. I release a loud groan in pain as another contraction hits. Dr. Julian walks in and she sits down at my lower half and she checks me for dilation.

             "It looks like it's time to push, miss Ryder," dr. Julian claims as she gets me all set up. "Dad, you can hold her hand."

           As soon as Paul grabs my hand, it's time to start pushing and I squeeze Paul's hand hard as I push. Paul grunts at the pain of my squeeze but he doesn't complain. He's glad he's not the one pushing a baby out of him.

           "Okay. Pause and breath," dr. Julian says and she counts to five. "Push! He's almost here."

           I groan out in pain as I push, gripping onto Paul's hand tightly until a baby's loud cry fills the room. I sigh in relief at the sound of my baby's healthy sounding cry.

           "Adam Enrique Ryder," I whisper as I watch the doctor's clean Adam up. "My little prince."

           Paul smiles. "You did great. I'm gonna go call people."

            That evening, Charlie enters Wynonna's hospital room and finds his nephew sitting in the bed with Wyn, holding baby Adam, with Eliza, too. Wynonna is watching all three of her kids lovingly, Charlie walks over.

            "You gave birth during Edward and Bella's vows," Charlie claims. "Congratulations, Wynnie. Your parents would be beyond proud of you."

           "Uncle Charlie, meet Adam Ryder," Wyn says as she motions to her newborn son as Jasper steps in with Rosalie. "You can hold him."

           Nigel allows Charlie to take the baby. Charlie gazes down at his new great-nephew with a smile on his face. He sits in the room's rocking chair and he looks at the baby in his arms as Jasper walks over to Wyn and kisses her forehead.

              When Charlie is done, Jasper holds adam, which makes Rosalie's entire day... watching Jasper hold a little baby. But her day is made even more when she gets to hold him.

          Eventually, the pack all come and go, visiting the newest member of the pack, and the new loophole to the treaty. Paul and Wynonna agreed that Adam will be living with her and the kids in Forks, so that Adam can grow up with his siblings.

            But Wynonna is also going to share custody with Paul, let him keep Adam on weekends and some days through the week. They both agreed, which is good because they can get along. They did before the baby and now they agreed to after.

             "Wynonna," Renee Dwyer coos as she enters the hospital room. "You were five years old when I first saw you and now look, three kids?"

           "Hey, Renee," Wynonna greets, she hasn't seen Renee since she was fifteen years old, not long befofe the spider bit her. "Come meet Adam."

           Renee walks over and she glances down at the baby as Jasper returns with food. "Is he patching for breast feeding?"

           Wynonna shakes her head. "No. He won't latch."

           "They don't always," Renee replies as she caresses Adam's tiny cheek. "He is handsome, Wynonna, congratulations."

            Renee stays for a little bit longer before she decides she wants to head home to her husband in Florida. Jasper drapes a hospital blanket over a now sleeping Nigel and Eliza and he lays on the bed with Wynonna. Adam is in the little bassinet beside the hospital bed, sleeping.

             Jasper kisses Wyn on the forehead and he holds her until Adam wakes up, in need of being changed and fed.
