Chapter 48: The Redcoats are Coming

                 The covens and the packs are all standing in the snow covered field together, waiting for the Volturi to come. Wynonna has wrapped herself in webs for warmth once more. She's standing with Jasper. Rosalie is with Emmett, Esme and Carlisle, Renesme is with Jacob, Bella, and Edward.

           "Just remember," Jasper says to Wynonna. "No matter the outcome, I will always love you, Wynonna James Hale."

          "And I will always love you, too, Jasper Whitlock Hale," Wynonna replies.

           "The redcoats are coming! The redcoats are coming!" Garrett sings from where he stands with his mate, Kate.

           The first person Aro notices when his army is close is the web wrapped human, the one Jane and Alec had mentioned. He is pleasantly pleased that they had been honest about her, that she is real, that the had meant it. A girl with the ability to control webs, and has also obtained speed, hearing, and strength.

          "Aro's looking for Alice," Edward states as Aro has a look around. "And... he wants Wynonna."

          Aro's gaze locks on Wynonna when the Volturi and their witnesses finally stop walking. He studies the human before he snaps his focus off of her, and he turns to  look at his old friend, Carlisle. Caius and Marcus France only slightly at the spider-girl before they return to their stony stances.

         "Aro, let's discuss things as we used to," Carlisle speaks up first. "On a civilized manner."

         "Fair words, Carlisle," Aro replies, his voice sends chills through Wynonna's veins. "But a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled against us."

        "I can promise you, that was never my intention," Carlisle claims. "No laws have been broken."

     "We see the child," Caius says. "Do not treat us as fools."

         "She is not an immortal!" Carlisle exclaims. "These witnessed can attest to that. Or you can look for yourself. See the flush of human blood in her cheeks."

          "Artifice!" Caius bellows, Wynonna glares at him as the webs return into her body.

             "I will collect every facet of truth," Aro claims. "Bit for someone more central to the story. Edward, as the child clings to your newborn mate, I assume you are involved."

             Edward glances are his wife for a moment before making his way over. Wynonna clenches her first to keep from putting a web wall between Edward and Aro. But she needs to do this, to see Aro's true intentions with Edward. And if they're bad, she'll protect.

         When Edward gets closer, he extends his hand toward the head of the Volturi. Aro takes Edward's hand into his own and he reads Edward's mind, Seinfeld the truth.

             "I'd like to meet her," Aro says.

           Wynonna wraps a protective web wrap around Renesme as she walks her up, Jacob and Emmett joining her. Bella is staying behind and protruding her mental sheild for her husband and daughter, knowing Wyn can create a web wall that keeps even vampires out.

          "Ah, the unique human! It is a pleasure!" Aro boasts excitedly with a smile and then he suddenly shrieks with laughter as he hears Renesme's heart. "I hear her strange heartbeat." He holds his hand out toward her.

         Nessie walks forward, thankful for the protective webs around her. "Hello, Aro," she greets and she touches his cheek, showing him her first memory of the man, transfixing the Volturi leader.
