Chapter 35: Graduation, Party, & Meeting

"When we were five, they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up," Jessica says at the start of her valedictorian speech. "Our answers were things like astronaut, president, or in my case, Princess. When we were ten, they asked again and we answered - rockstar, cowboy, or in my case, gold medalist. But now that we've grown up, they want a serious answer. Well, how 'bout this: who the hell knows!?"

This causes an uproar in the graduating students and their families. Hoots and hollers spins the gym.

"This isn't the time to make hard and fast decisions, it's the time to make mistakes," Jessica continues. "Take the wrong train, and get stuck somewhere chill. Fall in love - a lot. Major in philosophy because there's no way to make a career out of that. Change your mind. Then change it again, because nothing is permanent. So make as many mistakes as you can. That way, someday, when they ask again what we want to me... we won't have to guess. We'll already know."

Wynonna can certainly hand to Alice. The clairvoyant vamprie sure does know how to throw a party. The music's good. The crowd is outstanding. And people are actually dancing.

Edward is talking to Carlisle, Emmett, and Jasper heatedly when Bella finally enters the house. Wynonna is chowing down on a paper plate of cheese cubes, wheat crackers, and some potato chips.

Wynonna notices Jacob being rude to Alice and she swoops I'm.

"I suggest you remove your arm before Alexander comes over and removes it for you," Wynonna says lowly, causing Bella and Jacob's eyes to widen.

             "The decision's been made," Alice claims as Alex walks over.

           "You're not going to Seattle?" Bella asks.

        "No..." Alice replies. "They're comin here."

           Bella, Alice, Wynonna, Jasper, Alexander, Edward, and carlisle are all outside now. Jacob, Quil, and Embry are all there, too. Alice filled everyone in on the vision she had when she was inside.

            "How long?" Edward asks.

         "They'll be here in four days," Alice replies.

        "This could turn into a blood bath," Carlisle claims.

            "Who's behind it?" Wyn asks curiously as Adam moves around inside her.

           "No one I recognized," Alice replies. "Maybe one..."

           "I know his face," Edward claims as he reads Alice's mind. "He's local, Riley Biers." He catches Bella's eyes, she recognizes the name. "He didn't start this," the telepath adds.

             "Whoever did is staying out of the action," Carlisle claims. "They must be playing with the blind spots in your vision."

          "Either way, the army is coming and there aren't enough of us to protect the town," Jasper speaks up.

        "Hold up," Jacob speaks up, about ready to explode. "What damn army?"

          "Newborns. Our kind," Carlisle replies despite Edward's protests.

          "What are they after?" Embry asks.

         "In my vision, they were passing around Bella's scent," Alice replies. "A red blouse."

          "They're after Bella?" Embry asks in both confusion and disbelief.

         "What the hell does this mean?" Jacob declares.

           "It means an ugly fight," Carlisle replies. "With lives lost... Which is why Wynonna is sitting out this fight."

            "Jasper wouldn't let me anyway," Wyn states as Jacob and the wolves share a look.

           "All right..." Jacob speaks up after a moment. "We're in."

          "No," Bella declines immediately. "You'll get yourselves killed, no way."

         "I wasn't asking for permission," Jacob reminds.

        "Edward..." Bella says pleadingly as she looks at the handsome vampire beside her.

         "It means more protection for you," Edward replies.

          "Jacob, do you believe Sam will agree to an... understanding?" Carlisle asks.

           "As long as we get to kill some vampires," Jacob replies.

         "Jasper?" Carlisle says as he looks over at the empath.

          "They'll give us numbers," Jasper replies. "Amd the newborns won't even know they exist. That'll give us an edge."

           "We'll need to coordinate," Carlisle claims.

         "Carlisle, they'll get hurt," Bella pleads helplessly.

           "We'll all need some training," Carlisle responds. "Fighting newborns requires knowledge that Jasper has." He turns to face Jake now. "You're welcome to join us."

          Jacob silently takes a couple steps forward. "Name the time and place."

           Wyn picks up Nigel and Eliza from Sue's and brings them home. Nigel wants a bath as soon as they're home, so Wyn calls Esme; who comes over instantly to watch Eliza.

             Wyn gets her kids to bed once Nigel is bathed fully. She goes to bed herself when Esme leaves for home.
