The next evening, I accompany Luhan to a small boutique uptown.
A tiny woman pokes her head out from the back with taking sip from a bottle of cola. And..not to exaggerate, but her eyes nearly pop out of her head when she spots me.
"Hi, I'm Piyuu! And you're beautiful! I just had a vision of the perfect dress for you. How do you feel about chiffon?" she blurts out in one breath.
"Wait, hang on, I'm not-"
"It's okay, I'll find something else," she says with sad eyes.
"There's no need-"
She cuts me off again, "And then, for the veils, they make the beads with-"
"I'M NOT GETTING MARRIED!" I yell to stop her.
"Wait, what?" she stares with surprise.
"This is Luhan. He and his wife-to-be are the ones who you need to have perfect visions about. Whereas I, am still single and ready to mingle," I chuckle.
"I'm...soooo sorry!" she says with massive embarrassment.
"It's okay! I'm still flattered to know that you think I'm pretty," I wink.
"Right. Um, of course you are," she says with disappointed eyes.
"How about we start over? I'm Nikita Khan, the wedding planner. And this is my client, Luhan. You'll make a suit for him and a dress for his wife," I say.
"Hi, Nikita and Luhan. I'm Piyuu Wu, the owner of this boutique shop. And I'm usually not this awkward, I swear!" she says.
"It's okay, love. I believe that you're totally not awkward," I say.
"Well..that's not true. I'm awkward, but not this awkward you know? Oh my gosh was that awkward?" she frowns nervously.
Why's she so adorable?
"Well, well, fine, why don't we discuss business?" I say, saving her from awkwardness.
"Yes, right. So, um..Luhan? Why don't you tell me what kind of suit you're looking for?" she asks.
"I'm not really sure. I don't really wear suits that often. So, honestly, I don't know what kind wilk work for me," he replies.
"Well, let's start off with, what will make you most comfortable?" Piyuu asks professionally.
"Let's see.."
They both drive into conversation on details of the suit. I struck over to the rack and pull out a ridiculous dress.
"You made it, Piyuu?" I ask.
She stares wide-eyed and grabs the dress from my hand.
"Oh, please. Don't judge me for that one. The bride was very specific and..they say the customer is always right!" she says embarrassedly looking down.
"I'm sure the bride pulled it off beautifully," I assure her.
Piyuu goes to the racks and takes a few suits. She holds one out to Luhan.
"How about we start with this one, and work from there?" Piyuu suggests.
Luhan takes the suit and pants and heads into the changing room. While he's in there, I hear a large croaking sound.
False alarm. I look to the table next to me and realize it's no croaking. It's just Piyuu's phone ringing, which appearantly has a very weird voice saying "Ya~haw~"
"Oh, no! It's Chaeyeon, who's getting married this weekend. I'd better take this call. Please, excuse me for a minute," she looks at me. I nod and she frantically presses the accept call button, nearly fumbling her phone in the process.
"Chaeyeon, hi! Are you all set for your wedding this weekend?" she questions excitedly on the speaker.
In the blink of an eye, I watch the color drain from Piyuu's face. Maybe Chaeyeon is a species of some kinda ghost.
"Oh no.. I'm so sorry to hear this.. I hope she feels better..." she mumbles on the call.
Hmph, bad news perhaps?
"I really wish I could help you. But I really don't know any wedding planners that well, let alone the ones that could help out on such a short notice," she says.
Wedding planner that could help out on a short notice? Sounds like a job for someone really desperate.
Exactly! For me.
"Hey, is someone looking for a wedding planner? I'd be glad if I could help out!" I say loudly so the Chaeyeon ghost hears me.
"Are you sure? They're looking for someone this saturday. I've never ever in my life heard of something that's this last-minute," she says.
"Yes, but I'm used to dealing with changes on the fly. I used to have this horrible boss who'd make me completely change the spreadsheets I was working on for days, and you know when? An hour before it's due! So, ahem, basically what I'm trying to say it last-minute changes are my speciality."
Hey, every gray cloud has a silver lining, right? Riiiight?
"Well, I agree but I guess this is up to Chaeyeon," she says and holds the phone up to hear ear.
"Chaeyeon, did you hear that? There's a wedding planner in the store who seems to be really eager to help you!" Piyuu says.
Please say yes, Chaeghost. Please. Say. Yes.
"Yes? Alright! I'll get you her information right away!" Piyuu hangs up the phone.
"I got the job?" I ask with surprise.
"Yes! You got the job," Piyuu exclaims.
"I GOT THE JOB!" I yell, then shut my eyes and do my happy dance.
And when I open my eyes, I realize Luhan's standing there in a wedding suit, giving me a look.
"Congratulations on the gig, Niki. But could I have some help with the suit?" he frowns.
"Sorry! You've got my full attention now! I swear!" Piyuu yells.
"Yeah, me too! No more celebration!" I say in a similar enthusiasm.
"It's..fine. But definitely not the one for me," he says.
"Never fear, we've got many more suits to try on, and custom is always an option," Piyuu says panting.
Luhan and I nod.
For the next few hours, Piyuu, Luhan and I go through suit after suit. And there are actually some nice ones, but nothing Luhan wants to say..ahem.."I do" to.
