I don't think any women over the age of seventeen relishes the idea of stepping foot inside of a high school, at least this is how things used to be back in Pakistan. I'm having all sorts of terrible flashbacks.
Thankfully, I'm not here to submit a hundred page assignment and the headmaster isn’t about to call me on his office room. I'm here to meet my clients.
"Thanks for coming, Niki. I'm Suho, and this is hera," a fancy man who looks like he inhales and exhales power and money emerges, followed by a gracefully heaven-like beautiful woman.
"We're so happy that you agreed to help us out. We've been told that you're good in pinch," she smiles.
"We're a little rusty when it comes to all this stuff," the man adds in.
"Don't worry about it. I'm here to make this as painless as possible," I shoot a smile.
God, unconventional or not, they're so cute.
"Believe it or not, we were high school sweethearts back in the eighties. But after we graduated, we lost touch.." the woman whispers.
"I've to ask, why get married now? After all this time?" I ask out of curiosity.
Suho affectionately wraps his arms around Hera, "We found each other on a reunion page on Facebook and just got to talking.."
"I guess we realized that the spark never really faded. I mean, it wasn’t like we were waiting around for each other or anything. He was married once before, but his first wife Irene divorced him years ago. And I was always too busy having adventures to settle down. But I've got a successful business and a full family of nieces and nephews..." Hera adds in.
"..And grand-nieces and grand-nephews," says Suho. She cuffs him on the shoulder playfully. I'm going to die, this is too much cute.
"We were just both at a point of our lives where reconnecting was like having a chance to be young again. And we wanted to make it official," Hera smiles.
"Well, I suppose it's never too late to fall in love and get married," I wink.
"Exactly.." Suho subtly nods.
"Did you two meet in a class? Who made the first move?" I ask excitedly.
"In sophomore Chemistry actually. Hera sat in the seat in front of me and I always loved the way she tucked her hair behind her ear when she was reading a book," Suho glances at her with an appreciating look.
"And I've always had a crush on him the whole time but I was too shy to say anything. I also used to secretly stalk him. Chemistry was always my favourite subject because I knew he'd be there," Hera shyly smiles.
"I finally got up the courage to ask her out when we got put on a project together.." Suho adds.
"And did she say yes?" I chuckle.
"I think her exact words were What took you?" he laughs. "Although I was the one who proposed when we were kids, but she's the one who actually messaged me first online."
Hera rolls her eyes playfully, "Only because I knew that we'd both be a hundred years old before you ever got around to it. You took your sweet time when we were young!"
I laugh, "So what was it like seeing each other after all this time?"
"It was like a dream. At first, I couldn’t believe it. And Hera's just as beautiful now as she was back then," he says in an amazed tone.
"Oh, you, always the charmer.." Hera whispers and their hands find one another and link together, "But not going to lie, I also felt the same way. Suho was as handsome as ever, and had the amazing humour I fell for all those years ago. I got butterflies in my stomach when I saw him!"
This is the kind of love that I was fairly certain that only existed in romantic movies. My heart's going to burst.
I take out my trusted notepad from the back of my pocket and turn to them, "Tell me a little bit about what you have in mind for your dream wedding."
"Well, I'm sure you've puzzled it out since we asked you to meet us here?" Hera asks. Um, no. I'm sorry I'm dumb.
"We want to get married in the place we met," Suho answers.
"Hang on, you went to high school.. here?" I gasp.
"We sure did! And ain't it something that it's still standing after all this time, specially in a city like Seoul?" Suho exclaims.
Literally everywhere I went to school is all torn down, and it's really depressing. Elementary, middle school, even the high school, it's all gone, wiped out. It's like my past is non-existent now.
"It's been quite a bit remodeled since our days. But I think it's symbolic to have our wedding here," Hera tells me.
Trust me, even if you pay me for it, you can't convince me to get married in any of my schools that exists. But I guess I didn't fall in love with anyone there, if I'm sure of my sexuality I shouldn’t have. Because everywhere I went was girl's school, specially because my Pakistani parents think it's unsafe to let their girl communicate with males. Now, watch me die single, you morons.
"What do you think about it, Niki?" asks Hera.
I smile brightly, "I think that sounds really beautiful!"
"And we don’t need anything too fancy. We're too old to worry about all the fanfare, we just want to be married to each other with some of our friends and families there," Suho says. I quickly add it to my notepad.
"The only thing we need is food and decorations. And, oh! We want it to be eighties themed, everyone dressed up like the eighties so it really feels like we're back there.." Hera adds in, as I quickly scribble keywords in my notepad.
