If you’d told me two days ago that I'd be sitting in Luhan and Aria's apartment talking about wedding planning agreements, I'd have called you crazy.
But here I am.
Guess this is official now.
"Yes! Now, enough boring stuff. Let's discuss the wedding plans!" Aria says very excitedly. Okay, she's surely the second most excited bride I've known. First is still Siyaah.
I clear my throat to put on the "Professional Niki" avatar, "And I've got an exercise to get us started. Write down three words that describe how you visualize your ideal wedding to be like. Once you're done writing them, read them aloud."
I rip a page of my notebook paper in half and hand it to each of them. Soon, they're both done with their papers.
"You should go first, babe," Aria says looking at Luhan.
"I'd like this wedding to be personal, classic and practical," Luhan says.
Aria's face gets swollen, "Oh no, I wanted it to be fun, social and extraordinary. Our ideal weddings don't match with each other!"
"It's okay, we'll do it however you like it to be. I don't have problem as long as you're happy with it," Luhan says.
Aria shakes her head, "I knew you were gonna offer to do things my way, but I want this day to be about both of us."
I stop both of them, "Don't worry! These words might sound opposed but your ideals are more alike than you think they are. I think that what you both would really like is a straightforward wedding with tried-and-true activities, where you get to spend quality time with your loved ones. And a couple of big, memorable moments."
They both nod.
I smile, "So here's what I'm thinking: large indoor venue out of the summer heat. Most of the decorations can be focused around flowers and other foliage, which feels classic without being stuffy. The ceremony will stick a little more close to the tradition. Then we can do it loosely for the reception."
"I like it!" Aria exclaims.
"So do I. It looks like hiring you was a right decision we made," Luhan says.
Truth to be told, I'm not sure that quite where that burst of professionalism came from. But the bride-to-be and the groom-to-be is impressed. So I think I can roll with it.
"Let's make it happen!" I snap.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
We spend the next couple of hours discussing details of the wedding..
"How about it.. We play your favourite song as you walk down the aisle?" I suggest.
"I'd love that! Thank you so much for doing this, Niki! I'm SO EXCITED" Aria says.
Don't thank me yet, I haven’t done anything!
"I'm happy to do it. We're going to make this the best wedding ever!"
My glance falls on my phone.
"Which I'll continue tomorrow, because I need to get some sleep! Now excuse me," I say and grab my bag.
"Wait, Niki, before you go, do you have any last question or something?"
Last question? Hmph, I guess I do have. Well, maybe I shouldn’t but he did ask so..
"Just one..how much will I be working with Jongin?" I blurt out.
Luhan stares at shock, "Probably not that much..but..why do you ask?"
Aria gasps, "Oh my gosh.. Did you take this job so you’d have a chance on my brother?"
Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew.
"Definitely not! I'm actually only asking because I'd prefer to work less with him..if that's not a problem," I say.
Luhan nods, "Well, I think that can be managed. But why though? Did something happen?"
"Well..I just happened to leave a job at his company. I'm just worried that if we work together then it's going to turn out freaking awkward," I reply.
That is true, right? I did leave the job. Whether it was willingly or, ahem..unwillingly - it doesn’t matter. It's irrelevant.
Luhan nods, "I see, it's okay I understand."
"But he's a good guy! He'd never hold any harsh feelings on you just because you left his company, trust me!" Aria says.
"Well, maybe he won't. But I'd still feel awkward. It's gonna be comfortable for me if I didn’t see him," I say.
Okay, as much as I'd hate to be sympathized, that's the only way to pass the mockery of being fired. And seems like Jongin's sister and her fiance are exactly the right people to turn to.
Aria smiles, "Don't worry Niki, that shouldn’t be a problem. As much as I love my brother more than anything in the world, I still don't want him anywhere near the wedding planning. So we're good."
Wait what?
I turn to her, "But Aria, isn't he supposed to be your best man for the wedding? I assumed that he'll do the part."
Luhan clears his throat drawing attention, "He's gonna do the part, yes. But, well..have you seen the stuff he plans?"
"What do you mean?" I ask.
Aria giggles, "If I had it his way, the aisle I'd be walking would've been a red carpet, my gown will be sponsored by gucci. Oh, and the special guest will be the president of South Korea."
"President of South Korea! Are you sure you're not exaggerating?" I gasp.
Luhan chuckles, "Well, as much as she loves to do that, let me tell you, she's not exaggerating right now. Jongin is insane, specially when it comes to assuring his sister's happiness."
I grin, "He sounds like a sweet person."
Except he's not.
"I'd love my wedding to be special, but..not this much you know," Aria says.
I nod,"I understand it. Well, in that case, I'm honored to plan this wedding."
"And we're honored to have you, Niki," Luhan says.
Wow. I feel so, um..professional?
"I'll see you tomorrow for the cloth-fitting. Goodnight to you both." I shake hands with them both and leave the house.
