CARAS POV
It's doesn't take long to fly from Colorado to New York but the time seems to go in slowmotion right now. My leg is anxiously shaking up and down and I'm glad that no one is sitting next to me. I keep checking my phone eventhough it's on plane mode. It's been 3 hours since I hung up on Idina to call the ambulance. I didn't get an update from the hospital and it's driving me absolutly crazy. I look down at the phone in my shaking hand. "She is okay" I repeat to myself while leaning back into my seat. "She is just fine"
After a short flight which seemed to take forever I rush myself out of the plane. While I impatiently wait for my baggage I take my phone off air plane mode. I nervously stare at the screen waiting for a message to pop up. A missed call from an unknown number. My heartbeat fastens and I call the number. With the phone against my ear and my bag in my hand I try to catch a cab. "New York city hospital please" I mumble to the cabdriver while I'm still waiting for the phone to ring. "New York city hospital, melanie speaking" a calm woman voice sound from the other side of the phone. "Hello, I missed a call. My name is Cara Mentzel, is there an update on my sister? Idina Menzel?" I ramble in one breathe probably leaving the woman on the other side speechless. "Oh yes, miss Mentzel. There is a small update. The ambulance workers found her unconsciousness on the bathroom floor. We don't know what happened exactly but she does have a big head wound and some bruised bones. They managed to stitch the wound in surgery but she hasn't woken up yet." the woman speaks calmly making sure all the information is delivered as it should. My breath hitches and my leg starts shaking again. "Thank you, I'm almost there" I breathe out before breaking off the line. She is alive
*few hours earlier*
3RD PERSONS POV
"Ma'am?" the blonde women kneels next to the unconsious brunette placing her fingers in her neck. "She has a pulse, get a gurney" her voice echoes through the apartment. The other ambulance worker rushes in with a gurney and kneels next to his collegue. "on my count" the women looks at her collegue who gives her a simple nod. "1.. 2.. 3.. go" on the go they lift the brunette on the gurney. "We need to get her out of here fast, because she is losing a lot of blood." the man nods and starts driving away the gurney. "there was an almost empty bottle of calming pills" the women breathes out. "Do you think?" her collegue starts and she just raises her shoulders. "I don't know"
The ride with the ambulance is fast and steady. Within 10 minutes the ambulance drives into the hospital and the gurney gets taken out by the interns. "Has she been awake yet?" the women shakes her head. "Is someone on the way for her?" the ambulance women nods. "Her sister is flying over from colorado, but I would like for someone to call her emergency number just in chase her sister takes longer." The woman looks around the room making sure one of the nurses gets the note. "Okay, here is her phone. And I found these pills next to her when we found her. We don't know how many she took so we don't know if it was on purpose. I got to go, good luck" the women says before turning around going back to the ambulance.
"she lost a lot of blood but we need to get her into surgery to stitch the wound on her head." eventhough there are 5 people speaking at the same time everybody seems to know what to do. "Move" a sudden loud voice causes everyone to move away from the gurney. "We're taking her into surgery now, someone call her emergency number and someone update her sister to check if she is almost there" and with that the gurney dissapears behind the doors. "Melanie you call her sister to check where she is and update her. Sarah you call whoever is under her emergency" head of staff states looking at the two interns in front of her causing them to nod. "on it" the redhead called Sarah takes the phone and makes her way over to the on call room for some privacy. She sits herself down on the chair in the corner and looks down at the phone in her hand. She hated this part, calling a loved one to tell him or her that their friend, family or lover was in the hospital. And she hated it even more when the patient did not woke up yet. "Just call" she whispers to herself. She clicks the emergency button. Her sister is the first one, but she was told to call the other one. She was not sure what to expect or who she would get on the other line. She lets out a sign and calls the number. A few rings and then a click. "This is the voicemail of Kristin Chenoweth, leave a message after the beep" The girl let out a sigh and clicks away the voicemail to call another time. After getting the voicemail another time she tries one more time. "Three times a charm" the girl brings the phone to her ear but before even ringing it goes straight to voicemail. When she is about to speak the voicemail the door flew open. A average height brunette curled women appears in the doorframe and looks at me. "Sarah?" she looks me in the eyes with red puffy eyes showing she had cried. I nod and stand up shaking her hand. "You're calling Kristin aren't you?" she speaks and again I just nod my head. "You can stop doing that, she is not going to pick up. I'll try and call her. But thank you tho, I'm going to my sister now" the women seems a little lost in thoughts but she gives me a little smile before turning around to leave the room. "Oh wait, here is her phone"
KRISTINS POV
I open the door into my apartment and drop the groceries under the coatstand. I greet Thunder with a pet on her head. I pick up the grocery bags again and make my way to the kitchen to pack away the food. It's 6 o'clock and I just got home from the theatre. Totally exhausted but pleased with the show of today. I snap out of my thoughts by the sound of my phone going off. I walk over to look on the screen and I let out a sign when I see Idinas name popping up on my screen. "Not now" I mumble walking away from the phone to continue what I was doing. The phone stops ringing and the silence in the apartment falls over me again. After I finish doing the groceries I sit myself down on the couch putting my phone next to me and turning on the tv. 10 minutes into the new my phone goes off again. I let out a slightly frustrated groan as I see Idinas name again. "Can she stop already?" I swipe away the call and try focussing my thoughts on the television, but my head keeps spinning around Idina calling. I stare at the news on the tv while petting Thunder her head. After being zoned out for sometime I startle out of my thoughts by the sound of my phone. "You don't know the word stopping don't you Idina" I groan while grapping my phone. I frown my eyebrow when it's Caras name instead of Idina. With a little bit of hestitation I answer the phone and bring it to my ear. "Cara? And to what do I own this special offer of you calling me" I chuckle nervously. Her voice shivers before she starts speaking. "Hi Kris, uh I know you might.. uh not want to do anything with dee right now. But I thought you should know that she is in the hospital." she stutters and I can hear her voice crack in the middle of the sentence. For a few seconds all the emotions a human can have flash through my body. "She is what?" I state trying to hold back the tears in my eyes. "They emptied her stomach and they found too many calming pills which probably caused dizzyness and that made her loose her balance. She slipped and fell with her head against the sink. She lost a lot of blood and her body got a big slap so they put her in an artificial coma to give her some rest" she speaks out between the tears. "Is she going to be okay?" I say with some hesitation. Cara lets out a trembling sigh and I feel like she wants to get something out. "what is it? Cara tell me" I whisper almost begging her to break the nervous ambience. "She had a panicattack" is all she says but it's enough for me to know what happened. "I'm on my way" I can hear Cara stutter on the other side of the phone but I'm already getting ready. "You don't have to Kris, I'm right here. I don't want you too feel obligated" she stumbles over her own words. "She is my weakspot Cara, eventhough I said I don't want to see her and things are kind of broken between us she is always going to be my weakspot. And she needs me right now, so i'm coming over!"
