"Oh, yeah. Terribly funny. Really Witty. God this place has gone to the dogs."
The first day at Hogwarts was going really well. The first class was Divination with Professor Trelawney. It was boring and a bit unnerving. But next, we had 'Care of Magical Creatures' with Hagrid. That should be entertaining, to say the least. He didn't seem like he'd be a teacher.
Tracey and I go to collect our books and a look of panic sweeps her face.
"Yeah, I hate school books too." I groan as I take the odd-looking book.
"That's not any book. It's a monster book and these things are nasty little buggers." She tells me as she hesitantly takes her book.
We walk to Hagrids hut where he eventually leads us into the woods. Tracey and I were right behind the group of the popular bitches.
"Right, you lot. Less chattering. Form a group over there and open your books to page 49." Hagrid instructed the group.
"Exactly how do we do that." Draco piped up from in front of us. You just open it you, idiot.
"Well, just stroke the spine of course." Draco took two of his fingers and rubbed them down the spine of the book, making it hum. Did the book just make noise? I picked up my book and got a better look at it. Guess Tracey was right. It is a freaking monster.
Soon a kid opened his book and it attacked him ripping his clothes to shreds making me laugh a little bit.
I walked over to a space and Tracey followed me talking about how this class was stupid and a waste of time. We went silent when we heard Dracey say something.
"Oh, yeah. Terribly funny. Really witty. God this place has gone to the dogs. Wait until my father hears that Dumbledores got this oaf teaching classes." He and his group snickered, obviously way to full of themselves.
"Shut up, Malfoy." I hear another kid speak up. Dang, I need to get better at names. They make the same 'oohing noise that they made on the stairwell last night as Draco drops his bag into one of his follower's hands and walks towards Harry.
His face changes into fear and I look to where he was looking.
"D-Dementor! Dementor!" He cried. The rest of the students gasped and looked where he had pointed. What was a Dementor? His group cackled and I looked over to Tracey who was looking at Malfoy with disgust filling her blood.
The group pulls up their hoods making them look 'scary' and make ghost noises. A shorter girl with thick brown hair sneers at Draco and turns the other kid around.
Hagrid clears his throat, clearing away the tension too. "Da-da-da-da," He says singsongy like and waves his hand to show some kind of creature. I set my books on the ledge behind me and walk to the front of the crowd to get a better look.
"Isn't he beautiful," Hagrid says proudly as we all see the winged bird, horse mash-up. "Say hello to buckbeak."
"Hagrid, what exactly is that?" A kid with bright red hair asks confused.
"That, Ron, is a Hippogriff. The first thing you want to know about hippogriffs is that they're very proud creatures. Very easily offended. You do not want to insult a hippogriff." Oh sounds like someone I've met. "It may just be the last thing you ever do. Now... who would like to come to say hello?"
Everyone takes a couple of steps backward but I proudly go forward. The same kid that Draco had just stood up to stayed still though.
"Well done Harry and Y/N. Well done!" He says proudly at the bravery.
"Now, you have to let him make the first move. It's only polite." Hagrid says as the kid named Harry and I step forward.
"So, you step up and give him a nice bow. Then you wait and see if he bows back and if he does you can go and touch him. And if not... Well, we'll get to that later." Great boost of confidence thank you.
"Now, just make your bow. Nice and low." Hagrid whispers to us as we slowly start to bend our knees and put our torso forward. The creature bleats and flaps its wings and Hagrid tells us to back off for a moment. Harry steps on a twig and Hagrid tells us to keep still.
Soon the Hippogriff bows back to us and Hagrid give us the go-ahead to pat him. We stick out our hands and slowly walk towards the animal. I lay my hand on the side of its head and feel it's rough feathers against my palm and it leans into my hand.
"Well done Y/N! Well done!" Hagrid applauds making the rest of the class cheer me on as well. After me, Harry placed his hand on the other side of his cheek as well.
"I think he may let you two ride him now," Hagrid says making me turn around in shock.
"What?!" I say sharply as Hagrid starts to lift me up.
"Hey hey hey hey hey! Hagrid-" He doesn't listen and he lifts me up onto the animal and then places Harry in front of me.
"Don't pull out any of his feathers cause he won't thank you for that." Hagrid laughs as he smacks the animal making it whine and starts speeding forward. In a panic, I wrap my arms around Harry's stomach and place my cheek on his back as the animal picks up its pace into a full charge.
Harry and I yell in horror as the students cheer and laugh. The animal puts out his wings and kicks off the ground into flight.
The wind blows through my hair as Buckbeak caws every now and again. I felt euphoric right now. The view, the moment, it all felt like something in one of the stories I read or movies I watched. It was truly amazing and the fact that it's me experiencing this, it's just amazing.
We fly through the castle grounds and over a lake of water letting me skim my hand across it leaving a trail where my hand once was. Harry and I laugh the entire time enjoying the moment we were in.
Harry let's go of where his hands were wrapped around the animal and sticks them out letting the breeze hit him and I do the same.
"WOO HOO" We both yell. It felt like a dream come true and then I realize. It really was.
Buckbeak lifts himself up again and flies back into the woods when he hears Hagrids whistle telling him to land. When he does, cheers erupt from the group congratulating Harry and me.
Hagrid reaches for Harry to take him off first and places him on the ground to whisper something to him. My smile fades when I see Draco walk towards the animal in fury.
"Draco...?"
"Yes, You're not dangerous at all, are you, you great ugly brute." The hippogriff chitters at the approaching teenager.
"Malfoy!" Hagrid warns as the animal starts to buck up and growl. I let out a scream as it does so considering I'm still on it. I clutch onto it, accidentally pulling on its feathers making the situation worse.
I start to slide off the back of the animal and land on my arm as I hear Draco yelp. I clutch my arm in pain.
Damn you Draco.
