Making The Team

"From what some of the team has said, you two don't get along too well."

The rest of the weekend was fun. It consisted of me, Theo, and Tracey, running around the empty halls of Hogwarts and dancing around in the common room.

But today was Monday. The day I find out if I made the team. Graham said to meet him at the quidditch field and he would tell you if you made it and what spot you would play. I had just said goodbye to Tracey and headed for the field. My heart was beating quickly. The realization just hit of how disappointed I'd be if I didn't make the team.

As I got closer I saw a familiar blonde who seemed to be coming from the field. I did a weak smile in his direction to which he seemed startled to return. I shook it off keeping my focus on getting to the field till I heard someone call after me.

"Congrats, dimwit."  Draco. I turned around to see him smirking at me making me laugh and roll my eyes. It reminded me of something we would've done in the fourth year when we were 'friends'.

Then I stopped in my tracks. Wait... congrats? I turned back around to see if Draco was still there. He wasn't. I took a deep breath, picked up my pace, and finally made it to the field.

"Y/N, over here." I heard Graham yell. I jogged over to him my heart seemingly about to explode. He looked down at his clipboard. "Congratulations." He said with a smile.

"What does that mean?"

"You made it, you're a seeker."

"Wait, really?" I was in complete shock. I made the seeker position. Me, Y/N Hartwood, made the seeker position.

"Yup. Although it is a bit confusing. Since you and Mr. Malfoy seemed to be at equal strengths I couldn't decide so I asked Snape what do to and he just said add you both. You'll each play every other game alternating unless one of you is sick or injured then the other will take over. Clear?" I nodded my head quickly, a huge smile on the inside but I just kept a normal face on the outside.

"Good. Practice starts in a week. I'd talk to Draco and figure out how you two are going to cooperate. From what some of the team has said, you two don't get along too well."

"That we don't." I smiled a little. "Well, till them." I waved to him as I jogged towards my first class. The worst class. The one with Umbitch.

The class was boring as per usual. We all took out our beginner defense against the dark arts textbook and listened to her lecture. I zoned out thinking about how proud Ced would be of me right now.

'Good job short stack! I knew you could do it. I'll be coming to all your games to cheer you on.'
'Cedric you don't have to'
'Of course, I do, after all this was my idea.'
'Fine, fine. I'll kick your ass when we go against you too.'
'We'll see about that. Hey, Hartwood?'
'Yeah?'
'Hartwood.'
'What?'

"HARTWOOD!" I snapped out of the trance I was in and back to reality.

"What?!" I yelled back at the professor. I knew it wasn't 'proper' to yell at a teacher but she just pissed me off so much.

"Are you even paying attention?" She asked, her voice was scratchy like it normally was when she was angry.

"No. No, I'm not." I wasn't lying so she can't get mad at me for that.

"Well, in that case, detention. Today. After school." She smiled at me and made a short giggle.

"Gladly," I mumbled. I took out my quill when I realized everyone else had their quill out as well. It wasn't technically my quill, it was Draco's but he basically gave it to me. I had used it ever since that potions class.

I came out of detention with a new scar.

'I must pay attention in class'

I sighed at the newly formed mark. It didn't hurt anymore since I've been used to it for a while now. I went to the bathroom to clean it off before retreating to the common room. I walked in and saw a patch of blonde hair on the couch. I walked past him to head to bed.

"Wait, Y/N." I turned around to see Draco standing in front of me.

"Yeah?" I yawned.

"We need to talk about quidditch, Graham said too."

"Yeah. He told me too. Can it wait until tomorrow? I'm tired." I said putting a foot on a step to the girl's dorms.

"Mhm. Night." He turned and walked off after grabbing the book he was reading off the leather sofa.

I headed off to my dorm as well. I opened to the door to see the three other girls asleep. Still hadn't gotten to know the other two yet. Maybe another day.

The tiredness started to set in as it felt as I was floating as I walked. I sat on the edge of my bed and kicked my shoes off before pulling my covers over my head and drifting off to a night of deep, dreamless sleep.
