"Draco we've hated each other since we were 13. And just- I don't know."
Everyone was going to return in three days and I couldn't be more ready. The only downside was that Draco and I were going to have to go back to being strangers. I don't know why it bothered me, it just did.
I walked down the field to get to the tree. The last note they left was that we knew each other but it was complicated. When I reached the hill I could see the tree down below. But someone was in front of it.
"What?" I breathed out to myself as I started to walk down the hill, my hands in my pockets.
As I got closer the person became clearer. He was wearing black pants and a grey shirt and his hair was... it was blonde.
The closer I got the more my suspicions were confirmed. "Draco?" I asked the person who was facing the other direction.
They turned around and I was right. It was Draco.
"Bloody Hell. This was bound to happen at some point." He mumbled to himself. Then everything started to click.
"Only Draco would be petty enough to claim a tree." I laughed at him.
"Ok, it wasn't petty. I just like it here and can't come down here when your down here." He sighed. I walked closer to the tree.
"It's not like I have cooties."
"What are 'cooties'?" I forgot that no wizard really knows what cooties are.
"Just a muggle thing," I said to him. We sat down together on the grass and looked out to the lake.
I brought my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them.
We sat in the silence once more but this time it wasn't awkward.
Sitting here reminded me of the thought that I had in the library that one day with Theo and Tracey. The pact that I made with myself. I reminded myself that I was not going to fall for him.
I took one arm out from around my knees and placed my hand on the ground. I felt something graze it.
I looked down to see his hand on top of mine. Damnit Draco.
"What are we doing?" I asked him after a while.
"What do you mean?"
"Draco we've hated each other since we were 13. And just- I don't know." I shouldn't have said anything. Now it's awkward.
"Yeah, your right." He took his hand away from where it was on top of mine. Immediately I wanted it back on. "We couldn't make it work anyway." He said.
We sat in the silence for a little bit more before Draco shuffled and stood up, turning to walk away. I grabbed his wrist and pulled him back down.
"Don't. Sometimes it's best to sit in the silence. It can speak the most without saying a word." This time I didn't let go of his wrist and instead let it slide down until his cold hand met my warm one. He flinches a little as I intertwined our fingers. And sat in silence.
"Y/N?" I hear him say, breaking the silence.
"Yeah?"
"Maybe we can make it work." I look at him in confusion.
"Don't push it, Draco. Be honest. Whenever Crabbe, Goyle, Blaise, and Pansy come back we'll go back to strangers. Like on the train."
"Look, about that-"
"It's fine. I don't need an explanation. We can't make it work is the point. No matter if we wanted it to or not."
"Just hear me out. I know I have a 'reputation' and I'd give anything to get rid of that but I can't. If we pretend to not be dating and go back to 'hating' each other in school and come here after, we can make it work." I was confused about why he wanted this to work. I wanted it too and the plan could actually work.
"You really want this?" I ask him confusion still coursing through me.
"I think so."
