"The ombre colors of the sun setting reflected off the dark, shimmering waters."
After potions, I had the rest of the day to myself. I decided to go out on the grounds and search around for a tree to study by. Somewhere quiet, hopefully.
I walked out of the main part of the castle and decided to go down by the black lake. I knew there were plenty of trees and only a few people went down there so it would probably work for the most part. I just needed a place to study and escape the stress Professor Umbridge was putting on everyone.
I walked until I found a singular tree by the edge of the lake.
Perfect.
When I reached the tree I placed my books on the ground and slumped my back lazily against the thick trunk. I turned my head to look across the glistening lake, remembering the tournament. The maze... the screams...
The memories felt as though they were moving in slow motion to extend out the pain. I hated it. I missed him so much. He was the only sense of home I had since Iris stopped responding to me. I should reach out to her again. Maybe she just hasn't recieved any of my letters.
I took out a piece of paper and tore off a small piece and brought out my quill. I took a deep breath and started to write on it.
Hey, Iris. It's me Y/N. Just wondering how you've been. I've been writing to you but maybe you just haven't been getting my letters. Anyway, I miss you.
Love, Y/N Hartwood
I rolled it up and raised my arm out signaling my owl to come and get it. My owl and I didn't have too much of a bond. She was shared between me and a few other students who couldn't afford one as well. She landed on my arm, took the note, and flew off to deliver it. I watched her figure get smaller and smaller until she wasn't visible anymore.
I laid my head back against the tree and looked back out the lake. A tear rolled down my face slowly. I let it fall instead of wiping it away. There was no point since I was alone and not in the common room like usual.
It really sucked how much I missed him. I just want my brother back but now I know that's never going to happen. He's gone. Really gone.
My thoughts were interrupted as I heard a twig snap in the greenery behind me. I rubbed the tears away with my sleeve and stood up to see where it came from. I looked in the bushes but I didn't see anyone. Probably just a squirrel or something.
I sat back down but this time I grabbed a book and started to read The Flap of the Cape.
The book was good and so I sat and read until I could tell the sun was setting. I started to pack my stuff so I could get back to the castle before curfew but when I turned back to see the lake, I stopped in my tracks. The ombre colors of the sun setting reflected off the dark, shimmering waters. It was beautiful and suddenly I didn't care if I was past curfew.
I wanted a better view so I climbed the tree and sat on the branch of a tree peering over the water. My feet hanging down below me, swinging slightly. My green and black robes shuffled in the soft breeze and moved my hair a little bit. It felt surreal and I never wanted this to end.
But it did. And I knew I had to find a way to sneak back into the castle. Typically I would've asked Hagrid knowing he would help but he isn't exactly here.
I climbed back up the field of tall grass to reach the castle. It was dark and hard to see but luckily there were torches that lit up the entrances to the castle.
I walked through a doorway and entered the huge stone castles walls quietly. I slipped between the hallways hoping not to be seen. I made it past everyone and I was on the final break. I decided to sprint the rest of the way. I was so close...
"Now, why are you out of your dorm, Miss. Hartwood." A soft giggle came from behind me making me skid to a stop. I turned around to see Umbridge standing with a pleased expression on her face. From behind her, a misty figure came out.
"Thank you, Peeves." She said thanks to the ghost. He smirked at me playfully before flying off. Umbridge started to approach me but I refused to move.
"Detention, Miss. Hartwood." She said. "Now, run along." She shooed me away and I continued to walk back to the common room, my entire mood ruined.
