After the bird incident, it was almost impossible to get Draco to do anything. He never wanted to get out of bed and never ate. I think that was the tipping point for him and honestly, I don't blame him.
"Come on, you have to at least eat lunch," I told him while we were walking through one of the courtyards.
He shook his head.
"Draco, come on. We're going." I grabbed the sleeve of his white shirt and pulled him along with me whether he wanted to or not. "I'm not going to sit around and watch while you starve yourself, Malfoy." He didn't speak to me but he stopped resisting as I pulled him to the grand hall.
Soft chatter and laughter started to become audible the closer we got to the entrance. The mood became brighter as we pulled up to the candlelit hall.
"Alright, you can let go of me now," Draco said yanking his arm away from me. I mocked him under my breath as we entered. I looked around in hopes of seeing Tracey or Theo but I hadn't spotted them yet.
Then I felt someone grab my arm. "Draco, if you want me to hold you again just say s-"
"No. Y/N..." I looked at him confused about why his face had gone pastier than usual.
"What?" He nudged his head to where he was looking. I squinted my eyes to enhance what he was looking at and the familiar face made the nice mood turn cold. "Katie," I whispered under my breath. Draco pulled his tie away from his neck like he was suffocating before he pulled my arm around with him and starting speeding down the hallway.
I didn't know where he was taking me but I didn't hesitate because right before my sight was pulled away from the cursed girl, I saw Harry look at us. And knowing him, he was after us this very moment, but running away wasn't going to make it any better.
"What have we done?" Draco said not needing an answer. We both knew.
He pulled me down the long, curving hallways of the castle aimlessly. "Draco, where are we going?" I finally decided to ask after we speed-walked down the dark paths. He doesn't respond but I had been getting used to that. I tried to start ruling out different places. Not the common room, room of requirement, or the tree.
Past another hallway.
Not the library or Snapes office. "Draco, I'm serious!" I asked having no clue and starting to get a little concerned.
"Shh." He sushed harshly as we continued down the halls. Finally, he took me down one final one and I knew where we were going.
"This is the boy's restroom, I can't go in there." I pulled back as he started to walk in.
"Well, by all means, go to the ladies." He half yelled at me in stress. I looked at him walk through the doors before I turned around and walked another direction. Where? I have no clue.
I finally decided to sit in the window seat Draco and I sat in not too long ago, fumbling the silver necklace through my fingers. I stared out across the fields letting every thought come to mind, not pushing a single one away.
But right when I want to think about everything, nothing comes up.
"Get up." I hear Snape's voice say quickly and rough as he speeds through the halls. "NOW HARTWOOD. NOW!" He yells at me making me scramble to get up.
"Sir, what's going on?" I panic chasing after him.
"Draco." Was all he needed to say before I knew something had gone wrong. "Do you know where he is?"
I nodded and took the lead, leading him to the boy's restroom. I pulled up in front of it not wanting to enter. Snape looked at me before telling me it was ok that I went in.
We ran in, me a little behind the professor. I see Harry standing there staring at something on the floor. The room was flooded, the clear water mixed with a little bit of red. My body froze as I see the red streaming through the clear water, fogging it.
I look down and see Draco lying there, hardly breathing with blood seeping from him. A mix of confusion, anger, and fear takes over me.
"DID YOU DO THIS?" I yelled as I walked over to the boy. "It was you wasn't it??" I grabbed his shirt collar before pushing him towards the door. "LEAVE US ALONE!" I yelled after him. "YOU BLOOD TRAITOR." Those three words fell out of my mouth like a bad habit even though I had never, ever even thought of saying them.
He looked at me once more before rushing out of the room. I ran through the water letting it spray around my feet as I stepped through it. I collapsed next to Draco looking at Snape, pleading him to do something.
"please..."
Snape knelt down with me and started repeating two words, "Vulnera Sanentur." over and over again. The wand traced over his white shirt stained with blood and the blood started to return to its place.
After he was healed to the best he could do he stood up and straightened his robes before walking out. Just like that. It was like he never really cared.
"Draco?" I asked cupping his right cheek in my hand. His breathing had steadied out letting his chest rise and fall evenly. His hand came up and he placed it on top of mine. I let out a long breath I didn't even know I was holding in.
"Hey, love."
