Draco and I went separate ways. Him to his parents, me to find Theo. I made it to the main entrance where another part of the battle must've taken place. The destruction was awful. I walked through it, taking everything in
Why?
Was the only thing that came to mind. Why? Why were we risking our lives? Over some petty argument? Why did Voldemort need Harry dead? I think I knew, or at least understood, at one point. But looking at what actually happened... just why?
(Song: Arsonist's Lullabye- Hozier)
I walked up the stairs to the great hall. I remembered doing the same thing five years ago. I was shorter back then. Confused. Alone. And here I was, suffering. Would I still have gone with Hagrid that day if I knew what was going to happen? Finally, get a home, get these amazing people in my life. But only to lose them? Would I be dumb enough to do that to myself?
The door was cracked but couldn't be pushed back further due to the crashed walls on the other side, blocking it. I looked around the sadness, the pain that showed in everyone was heartbreaking. I don't even know if I was welcome here. They could all hate me for all I know. They could call me a murder, a traitor and it wouldn't shock me. I felt like I deserved that.
Depressing sentences were shared as I passed like, "I'm sorry, dear. She's gone." Or, "She's passed..."
The made me want to rip my heart and ears out and crush it and never have to feel a thing again. I looked frantically around, making sure to clutch the long sleeve of my black shirt, just in case. Even though they probably knew already, I was still embarrassed.
Then I saw a patch of dirty blonde hair. Theo.
"THEO!" I yelled from where I was standing. He turned around, the hardened look on his face disappearing as his eyes met mine.
"HOLY SHIT! Y/N?" Without another word we sprinted at each other, coming together in a tight hug. "Blimey, dude." He said not letting go. I let out a soft laugh. That was until he pulled away and spoke again. "Say, have you seen Tracey? I can't seem to-" Then he saw the hurt in my eyes. His eyebrows fell and his head tilted to the side as he shook it. He whispered a few no's before falling to the ground, clutching his knees to his stomach. I still stood, my eyes glossing over.
"I'm sorry... I tried."
He did exactly what I did. He didn't respond, just cried and cursed into nothing.
My head turned around as I heard a familiar shriek coming from somewhere. Someone was being carried in on a stretcher, people following them. Molly was the one crying. That's not good. I froze trying to decide if I wanted to see what was going on or not.
My curiosity got the best of me. "I'll be right back, alright?" I looked towards Theo. He nodded in his knees. Then I ran off.
I walked past the dead bodies being covered by blankets. I walked to where they put the cot down. I saw a twin sobbing from above. The light was too dim to tell them apart. Where was the other-
No.
I picked up my pace into almost a sprint. The twin turned to me. It was George. I could see it now. His nose was running, his eyes were puffy like half of him was ripped away.
"Fred?" My voice cracked as I walked up to George. "Is he-" George just shook his head then covered his face with his hands and sobbed. No.
I looked down and saw Fred's lifeless body.
'See, but you two are the good crazy.'
'There's no such thing as good crazy and bad crazy. Is there, Georgie?'
'Nope. There's just plain old crazy.'
