"But it doesn't matter. I wouldn't be able to go anyway."
Draco and I were sent home immediately. Scoldings from both his parents. I had never seen either of them this angry but Draco seemed to be used to it. I felt sorry for him. I really did. After they were done, we were sent upstairs where we walked to the observatory. The highest floor on the Manor.
The familiar place hadn't changed since Draco and I decided on using the potion on Dumbledore. It had failed as well but at least the task was done.
I knew the scolding from Narcissa and Lucius were to make us feel awful about ourselves. It had done just that. I was already upset about what had happened to George. I didn't even know what happened to him. Severus pulled me away before I could do or see anything.
Draco walked next to me as I stared out the window. The cloudy sky was grimmer than usual. All of a sudden the window to my left burst open, letting air swirl in and out of the room. An owl flew in.
It perched on one of the stilts that held up some kind of plant that I didn't know. In its beak held a beige envelope. I reached up and took it out of its bright yellow beak. Draco shooed the bird back out the window before closing it, not wanting any more of the cold air to chill the already cold room.
I sat down and crossed my legs looking at the address on the letter. There was no clue who it was from. I flipped it over and ripped off the envelope that came off easily. I took out the folded sheet of paper that was inside but soon I realized it wasn't a normal slip of paper. It was an invitation. To a wedding.
Bill and Fleur have formally invited you to the burrow for their wedding ceremony. You may bring a plus one, but only one! On behalf of the entire Weasly family, we hope to see you there, Y/N!
It continued to state a date, time, and place. I couldn't look at it anymore as I tore it in half and opened the window Draco closed. I crumbled the ball of torn paper before chucking it out the window and closing it as fast as I can as if it would help me forget.
"What was that?" Draco asked curiously, standing up.
I shook my head. "Wedding invitation," I said blandly. "But it doesn't matter. I wouldn't be able to go anyway."
He nodded his head in understanding not needing nor wanting a further explanation of the event. But despite that, he walked up behind me and snaked his hands around my waist before he placed his lips close to my neck. His breaths sent tingles throughout my skin, making the hair on my arms stand up.
"It's better than it seems." He whispered.
"Well, it seems like we're being used to tear our own friends apart all because of some tattoo on our arm," I responded back, matching the volume of his words.
"We'll be ok." Even though I knew they were just empty words it made me feel a tiny bit better. She'd been telling herself they'd be fine and hearing it from him, no matter how many times, made it really seem like we'd be ok. And maybe we would.
-----
I laid in my large bed staring up at the decorated ceiling. Painting littered throughout it but it was beautiful. Even though I was exhausted, I didn't want to go to sleep. I wanted to be awake. But only with one person.
Sleep became less and less a possibility as I thought about life. Thinking about their conversation from earlier. Maybe the words Draco said weren't so empty. Maybe he actually thought they'd be fine.
Even though the world around us seemed to be collapsing, the ground underneath the two of us seemed to stand still. Untouched. And I wanted to keep it that way.
