The Memorial

Elena is a vampire. Another one of my best friends is a vampire.

The news went through my mind, we all almost died going off the bridge. I did die, and the witches brought me back. Elena went through transition, and Stefan saved Matt.

I jogged down the steps, as mom smiles at me, "Morning honey." She says and hands me a cup of coffee. "Morning mom." I mumbled and drank my coffee. THe doorbell rang and I sighed, "I'll get it." I told her and set the cup on the table, before going to the door.

"May I help you?" I asked, "Good evening. I'm hoping I can help you actually. I spoke with Sheriff Forbes earlier. My name is Connor Jordan." He reaches his hand out, but I just eye it. "Aaliyah Lockwood." I say, "Mom!" I call out and Mom came walking out. He repeated what he told me to my mom and mom shakes his hand. "Carol Lockwood. I know who you are, Connor, and I believe the Sheriff made it clear that the tragedy at the farmhouse was an internal matter."

"That's one way of looking at it, I guess. Although I prefer the term cover up. Do you mind if I come in?" He asked and I raised an eyebrow crossing my arms. "Tyler." I whispered knowing he can hear me. "You know, I really don't think that's a good idea." Mom tried but Connor forces his way in. Carol tries to shut the door on him, but is unsuccessful. "Uh, excuse me." She snaps, "Thank you. You're aware that it wasn't an accident. Any rookie fireman could tell you that." He snaps. "What are you? The press?" I snapped. "Not exactly. So, twelve Council members are dead, you're the Mayor, why weren't you at that meeting?"

"It wasn't official town business." Mom told him, "What was it then?" He asked, Tyler comes downstairs while he is putting his shirt back. "Mom? What's going on?" Tyler walks around his mom and approaches Connor. Connor turns to face him. "Is there something I could help you with?" He snaps, "Maybe. How are you doing? I'm Connor." He reaches his hand out. Tyler takes it. Tyler's skin starts to burn and he growls in pain. Connor pulls out a pistol and shoots Tyler several times. "TYLER" i screamed as Tyler falls on the floor and Connor continues to shoot at him. Carol is frantically yelling Tyler's name. "Tyler! Oh my God! Tyler! Tyler, run!!"

I hold my hand out and Conner groans as I give him an aneurysm. Tyler gets up from the floor, super speeds across the room and smashes through a window. I stop it and Connor runs out the door after him. Caroline comes down the stairs. They both see a smear of blood on the floor and look at each other in shock.

After getting confirmation that my brother was alright, we all started getting ready for the funeral. I walked in the church, as I went up the stairs catching sight of a black haired girl. "Oh my god. April?" I asked and April turned to me before rushing over to hug me making me laugh as I squeezed her. Our hug lasted just under five minutes before we pulled away and sat on the bench together. "How's boarding school been?" I asked her my hand clasped in hers. "It's been.." She says laughing making me laugh. "I'm sorry about your dad Ril." I told her, "It's alright I guess." she mumbled and laid her head on my shoulder.

"They want me to speak but I don't know if I can hold myself together out there Liyah." She mumbled and I smiled softly. "Show me your speech." I tell her and she leans up clearing her throat, but before she could speak, I followed her line of sight seeing Conner. "April, go get Elena and the two brothers with her.  Go." I say and he stabbed me in the stomach, before getting April.

I groaned as Damon shushed me and ran a hand through my hair. "D?" I asked and he chuckled, "Welcome to the land of consciousness." He joked making me laugh weakly.

My phone buzzes and a message from Stefan pops up

'Meet up at the High school'

Soon Damon and I arrives and Damon gets out of his car. He walks over towards Bonnie, who is also getting out of her car. "What are we doing here?" My father asked, and Bonnie shrugged, "I don't know. Ask Stefan." Damon turned to Stefan and asked, "Stefan, what are we doing?" Stefan has some of the paper lanterns in his hand. "We're finishing the memorial we didn't get to have earlier." Stefan hands Elena a lantern. Then hands one to me "We need to start healing, Damon. We've all lost so much, especially recently. I think we're numb to it. We push it away, we make a joke out of it, ignore how we feel. We've never just let ourselves grieve." Damon made a face, "So, you're lighting lanterns?"

"Yeah. Yeah, we need to do this." My uncle said nodding. "What we need to do is find out who this hunter is and what he knows about the death of the Council. We have more important things to be doing right now than this." Stefan shook his head "Not tonight, we don't." Damon scoffed at the idea and I sighed "This is for my uncle Zach and my friend Lexi and for Alaric." Stefan lights the lantern. He hands the lighter to Matt. "This is for Vicki."

Matt lights his lantern. Caroline gets up and takes the lighter from Matt. "This is for my dad. And Tyler's." She lights her lantern. Jeremy gets up and takes the lighter from Caroline. "This is for our parents. For Vicki. Anna. Jenna. And Alaric." He lights his lantern and looks up at Damon. He tries to hand him the lighter but Damon refuses. " No way. I'm not doing that." Damon leaves. Jeremy hands the lighter to Bonnie. She takes a lantern out of the box and takes the lighter from Jeremy. She gets up and stands next to Caroline. "This is for my Grams." Stefan looks at Elena. She gets up and stands next to him. She lights the lantern. "This is for my dad, Uncle Mason, Celia, Noah, and just about everyone that you've all lost, everyone that this town has lost. And for me, I guess."

Elena handed me the lighter and I smiled, Elena steps forward and releases her lantern. One at a time, we all began to release their lanterns as well. We watch them as they float off into the night sky.
