There was two days until it was the Yule ball and so I went to the library to read a book about hair styles to see which one would suit me and pick one out for Penelope.After finding a book I sat down at the desk and began to read.A few minutes went by when I saw a familiar figure walk causally into the library.It was non other than Tom who made his way over to me and sat beside me.I looked up from the book to his face a few times as he was smirking.

"What are you so happy about?"I asked closing the book after giving up on finding a decent hairstyle that had not gone out of date.

"Oh nothing"Tom said simply looking at his ring and playing with it with a slight smirk on his face.

"I am getting the feeling that whenever you say nothing that I should be worried."I said and Tom looked up and our eyes met but he did not keep the eye contact as if he was trying to hide something.

"I dont tell you because I dont want to burden you with it"

"With what?"I replied shuffling in my seat to face Tom directly instead of turning my head.

"Dont worry you pretty little mind about it"Tom said and pecked my lips before standing and leaving before another word could be said.I spotted someone else coming towards me and saw that it was Quinn he sat down in the seat that Tom had been sat in just a few seconds ago.

"Hi"Quinn said sounding shy and quiet as he brushed a hand through his jet black hair which shimmered in the candle lights from above.

"Hey"I replied trying to sound like nothing was bothering me when it really was, I couldn't keep my mind off why Tom was so happy.

"Iwaswonderingifyouwouldliketogototheballwithme"Quinn said really quickly so fast that  my brain could not process what he had said.

"Sorry I didn't catch that?"I said frowning as Quinn tapped his feet which I was sure was down to being nervous.

"Uh I was wondering if you would like to go to the ball with me"Quinn said more slowly this time round but not looking in my direction.I thought back to the walk home from the post office with Tom.

"If we go with each other then the other girls are going to suspect something so you and I need to go with someone else to yule ball."

"But Tom I really don't care what the other girls think-"I was cut off by Tom who took long strides beside me.

"Yes you do I have seen it many times now don't let me say this again go with someone else get someone before you have to go alone"Tom had said and walked off ahead back to the Slytherin common room leaving me to ponder on my thoughts. 

"Yeah sure ok"I replied and Quinn's face instantly lit up.

"Really thanks"He said and hugged me tightly.

"Your the best!"Quinn said rather enthusiastically and speed walked over to his friends,a few seconds later a loud group of cheers emitted from the group and almost everyone looked up from their books and ssshhed them all and they then stopped, giggled and then whispered cheered.

I rolled my eyes and decided I was going to make my way to dinner,I put the book back and walked away from the library  when I saw a boy no older than 12 being taken to the hospital wing carried by the teachers completely stiff as if he were made of stone.I shook it off and carried on to the great hall joining Penelope on the bench.

"Where have you been?"Penelope asked looking a bit hurt.

"The library"I replied taking my spoon and beginning to eat the tomato soup in front of me.

"Oh"Was all she said just as the headmaster clinked a glass and everyone turned to him in silence.

"Now I am sure most of you have heard through rumors that a series of attacks has been happening at Hogwarts who is behind it we do not know but what we do know is that the chamber of secrets has been opened.If you know who is behind the attacks it is very important that you make sure that a professor or myself is informed.If the person behind these attacks is not found then I am afraid Hogwarts will have to close."Headmaster Dippet announced solemnly and everyone afterwards began to chat talking about who it could be and what the chamber of secrets was.

"Well that was cheerful!"Penelope groaned as she walked beside me back to our dorm.

"Yeah very"I replied and Penelope stopped suddenly.

"What is it?"I asked and she rolled her eyes.

"Isn't it obvious!"She replied and I slowly shook my head which caused her to snort.

"I haven't been asked to the yule ball yet and I am worried that none will ask me has anyone asked you?"Penelope said and I was having an argument in my head about whether or not to tell her about the incident in the library and decided it would be best to tell her as word would soon spread knowing a bit about Quinn he was most likely to tell everyone he had a date to the ball.

"Yes"I said quietly as I saw Victoria walk past with her group of followers smirking and looking smug Tom had probably asked her to go with him.

"Who?!"Penelope asked as if it was a matter of life and death.

"Uh Quinn"I said scratching my head out of embarrassment.

"Oh"Penelope's face saddened and she looked to the floor ignoring Malfoy and his friends who were following closely behind Tom snickered about her hair which was going a bit crazy today.

"Whats wrong?"I asked after exchanging a look with Tom before looking back to Penelope.

"I wanted to go with Quinn that's what!"Penelope said tears in her eyes she ran off past me soon getting out of eyesight among the crowd who were all eager to get back to their dorms.
