The sun was high in the sky and Azalea was wide awake, just like she had been all night. She couldn't sleep knowing that Sirius was coming to get her, knowing she would see him and that he would take her away from her mother. She had spent most of her nights crying, feeling weak and selfish for doing so. She shouldn't have been crying over her own problems, but she was unable to stop.
Her mother had been screaming insults at her day after day, not stopping once to think about how Azalea felt. Azalea would cry her eyes out right in front of her mother, but she cared very little. Azalea had been sitting in her room for days, staring at herself in the mirror. She was starting to see what her mother saw. An ugly, selfish, fat child that didn't deserve everything she had. Lily came up the stairs carrying a plate of food, taking it to Azalea. She knocked on the door lightly and entered, knowing Azalea was not going to move to open the door.
"I brought your lunch, Azalea. I hope you eat this time," Lily whispered quietly as she turned and left the room, shutting the door quietly. She had long forgiven Azalea. She had been tired of being mad at her for a reason she had long forgotten.
"Still nothing," Mr.Evans asked sadly. Lily shook her head.
"No. Sirius is our last hope. Mum is the reason behind all of this, I just know it. I hear them screaming, and she must have said something that hurt Azalea really badly." Mr.Evans nodded.
"I will have to talk about it to her. She thinks she is doing what's best," he sighed. Just then, Sirius was tossed out of the fireplace. He coughed and stood up, dusting himself off.
"Where is Z at? She is usually waiting for me," Sirius frowned as he looked at Lily, "Nice to see you again Mr.Evans." Sirius greeted Azalea's father, shaking his hand firmly.
"Sirius, it's awful! She hasn't came out of her room for three weeks! The only time she comes out is when she needs to use the bathroom! She just sits there and stares at the mirror! You are our last chance," Lily cried out.
"What? Z! Z, what's going on," Sirius called as he rushed up the stairs. He reached the top and turned to Azalea's room, nearly falling from how quick he had turned. He opened the door quickly and quietly, seeing Azalea immediately. He walked to her bed and crawled behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. He put his mouth by her ear.
"What's wrong, Z? Why have you been sitting like this for three weeks," he asked. Azalea jumped slightly at his voice, not seeing him in the mirror until that moment.
"Has it been three weeks already? Time sure does fly by fast," Azalea murmured, "My stuff is all packed. I packed it a month ago. To be honest, I don't ever remember unpacking it." Sirius frowned and spun Azalea around so she was facing him.
"What is wrong, Z? Don't avoid the question. You have to tell me if you won't tell anyone else."
"Not here. I'll tell you, I promise. I just don't want Lily or dad to hear," Azalea said, burying her head in Sirius' chest. Sirius sighed and ran his hand through Azalea's hair.
"Okay, Z. But you do know you are going to have to tell them sooner or later, right? They need to know," Sirius told her, hugging her close to him with one arm around her waist.
"I know. It is just not going to be now," Azalea said as she brought her head up to look at him. 'Now would be the perfect time to kiss her' Sirius thought to himself, but he knew he shouldn't do it. He could imagine himself leaning down and putting his lips on hers, feeling her soft lips, tasting her, knowing every part of his best friend. But he couldn't. Not when she was so sad and not when he was so scared.
"We should probably go down there before they get worried you didn't talk to me or something," Sirius whispered, his voice cracking slightly. He inwardly slapped himself, knowing he should not be so obvious in front of her. Azalea nodded and stood up, falling back on the bed as soon as she did.
