Chapter - 29 She's mine

Jannat's POV: I was in my room on a Friday afternoon. I had finished all my classes and I was writing a report that was due Monday. As much as I love to procrastinate, I had nothing else to do so I decided to cure my boredom. Then I got a facetime call from Ayaan, my little brother. Aw I think he's missing me. Oh how I wanna go back home. I accepted the call and saw my baby brother smiling back up at me. We talked cheerfully for a while. After like 10 minutes, I felt a weight on my head. I looked up in a struggling manner to see Siddharth. He had kept his chin on my face, and ouch, his head is heavy! He popped in and Ayaan was more than happy to see him. Brothers oof. All this was great. What wasn't great is the fact that Siddharth never took his head off mine. I knew he was brooding about something so I told Ayaan that we would call him back after some time. Sidd looked down at me with big googly eyes. I held his hand and pulled him to sit on the bed in front of me. 

Jannat: You okay?

Sidd: I don't even know

Jannat: I seriously don't get this logic. If you miss talking to Anushka so much, JUST GO TALK TO HER. 

Sidd: I never said I missed talking to her. 

Jannat: Why did you stop talking in the first place?

Sidd: Trust me, I want to talk to her but you know how sometimes no matter how much you try, you can't get yourself to speak to that one person becuz they hurt you?

Jannat: Gosh Siddharth, its been a freaaking week. She broke down in front of me yesterday cuz she definitely misses you. 

Sidd(sighing): She did?

Jannat's POV: I nodded when he asked that. You know what's the weirdest thing? I'm stuck in between two idiots who won't talk to each other. Anushka tried talking to him but he never reciprocated. This is so horrible. On the upside though, I bonded with Siddharth. I had himself all to me for a whole week and we did a lot of cool stuff. We studied, played basketball, watched a movie or two, researched, and I even helped him with his robot. It was almost finished. I have become even more attached to him now. As much as I loved spending my time with Sidd, I missed Anushka. She was hanging out with Riyaz all week and that angered Siddharth even more. Its her life, get over it already! I voiced this to him and he sighed again. Ugh I hate seeing him like this. I have to do something. But not now. I have to go to the auditorium for my singing rehearsals. I had chosen the song that I was gonna sing at the competition. And I was slowly banishing my stage fright. It took a lot of effort and I was proud of myself. I got up from my seat and looked back to see that my hand was in Siddharth's hand. I had held his hand when I was helping him sit down. He never took his hand away. I didn't even know about it. All I knew was that I didn't wanna let go. There was a certain warmth which I wanted to hold onto for a long time. 

Sidd: Kahan ja rahi hai?

Jannat: Mere rehearsals hain yaar. I'll see you later. Are you gonna stay here?

Sidd: Nah I'll go hang out with the guys. Have fun, rock it. 

Jannat: Byee muah

I left my room and he stayed back for a while before going to meet his gang. Siddharth stopped talking to Riyaz too. And Riyaz was like his brother. They were pretty close. I have no idea why he is doing this. Maybe he's still angry that they didn't tell him about it and besides, he cares too much about Anushka to watch her get her feelings hurt. So he decided to distance himself from them. He is miserable about it but he thinks its best for all three of them. I reached the auditorium drowned in my thoughts.

The rehearsals went on for over 2 hours. Everyone who was selected was amazing in singing. And guess what? The creepy dude was also a contestant. GOD WHY ME? But he didn't pay much attention to me which was satisfying for me. I had picked the song that I would be singing in the competition like 4 days ago. Even though Siddharth asked me everyday which song it was, I wouldn't tell him. Why? Becuz I picked his favourite song- Raabta. I wanna do this for him becuz nobody wants to see me on the stage as much as he does. Cute. Anyway, where there's happiness, there's trouble too. You know how there's a mean girl gang in every single college? Yeah there was one here too. The leader's name was Kritika. She is so annoying. Third year, my senior she was. She loved picking on me becuz first, I was her junior, and second, she liked Sidd and she was jealous that I used to hang out with him all the time. Jerk. She was apparently the incharge of this fest so she was checking in. She walked up to me twirling her hair along with  two more girls. Sidekicks, to be precise. She mocked me for a minute and then she started playing with my hair. What the heck is wrong with her?! I was about to go bonkers and yell on her but before I could do that, a hand came in between and pushed Kritika's hand away. I turned to see Siddharth burning in anger. Oh no, here we go again. Did I mention he gets really angry when people annoy me? Well, now you know. Kritika was obviously in shock. She was like how dare you and all that shit but she froze when she realised that it was Siddharth. Ugh. Siddharth on the other hand, kept a hand on my head while caressing the same hair strand that she was touching and playing with. 

Sidd(to Kritika): You touch that hair one more time... No wait, I mean you touch her hair one more time... Nooo wait, I mean you touch my hair one more time, I'll separate your hand from your socket hun. Do you want me to do that?

Kritika(shocked): What do you mean by "your hair"? That's not yours! That's her hair.

Sidd(smirks): Hate to tell this to you but she is mine, which means that her hair is mine too. 

Did he just say what I heard him say?
