Siddharth's POV: The only girl who's been in my life for too long apart from my mom. I came to know about her when I was 6 years old. When I used to ask her what she wanted to become when she grew up, she would smile, appearing visibly embarrassed through those broken teeth, and then shyly she would say that she wanted to become a singer. Her dad was a major reason for this, he used to make her sing every now and then. He cultivated a habit in her that made her all the more beautiful. She had no issues in speaking or even singing in front of people till she was 8. As soon as she turned 8, things happened. Things that she regrets till date, things that made her afraid to the core. She has been living with that fear since then. Everyone in her life encouraged her to take part in activities and events. But she wouldn't. Fear had won the better of her. And when that little girl turned 14, she decided to host a program at school along with me. I obviously forced her into it. But moments before the program was about to start, she fell sick. The one thing that she could never avoid no matter what she did, where she went was that fear. To go out and talk to people openly. She fears that people would leave her. Forever. Like her dad did. He was a patient of cancer in his early 40s. This was precisely why she wanted to become a doctor. She wanted to save people. She wanted to keep people from going to heaven so soon. She wanted to see that happiness and joy on the patient's relatives' faces, when they learned that the patient was gonna stay on earth, along with them. Which she never got to see. From a singer to a doctor, she grew up. And now that little girl is 18 years old, and she has bloomed into this gorgeous young lady, who can do whatever she wants to. Nothing could stop her any longer becuz she conquered the one thing that kept her on the sideline for so many years. Her dad would be so proud if he were here today. Not many people knew what life had put her through when she was barely a kid. I had an overwhelming happiness in my heart when she sang on that stage in front of the whole freaking college. People from different backgrounds, regions, cultures. They could hate you, judge you and bully you. But she did it. And the fact that she sang for me- I don't have words. (Not so happy about the fact that she called me annoying in front of so many people though). But hey, there was nothing that could pull my mood down at that moment. She didn't take her eyes off of me when she was rendering that beautiful song. Just for me. That makes me so happy. She came to the audience along with the others after her performance, and I saw her part shivering, part jumping. I walked up to her and took her hand in mine. She smiled at me with those little subdued drops of happiness in her eyes and hugged me. She didn't want to remove her head from my chest where my heart was jumping with joy. I touched her hair gently and when I reciprocated the hug, she wet my t-shirt. I'm not complaining ok. It felt wholesome. She asked me through breaks, "do you think dad would have been proud of me?". I tilted my head on hers and said, "trust me, this would have been undoubtedly one of the best moments he would have witnessed. I'm so proud of you. He is up there somewhere, smiling down at you. You did it." She broke the hug just as the guy on stage finished singing his song for her. I would have bashed him but I got to know yesterday that he was our senior. I'm surprised he didn't kill me after I threatened to hit him with a stick despite being elder to me by almost 4 years. Well, it played out well for me. She broke the hug and looked up at me. She showed her teeth. So cute my best friend is.
