Chapter - 12 The profile picture

Jannat's POV: The next morning I woke up to the sound of a very familiar voice. A sweet, chirpy, innocent voice. I was too lazy to throw my huge, comfy blanket off my body and rise to see who it was. So I stay put, wrapped up in my blanket trying to rest my leg properly onto a good position. But the voice wouldn't stop talking. And I felt as if it was addressing me again and again. Lazily, I tried to open up my eyes, but they were drooping so hard. I mean, naturally I was super tired. So I shut them back again. But after a while I couldn't sleep because of the voice so I thought enough is enough and I opened my eyes to snuggle out of my blanket and peep out to see who this person was.

Girl: Goodness, it took you half an hour to wake up, seriously? What more do you expect me to do? Pour ice cold water on your face?

I looked around and peeped out of the window, the cover of nightfall was still persistent. Why would anyone wanna wake me up at this hour of the night? Then I saw her.

Jannat: Reeeeeeeeeeeeeem! Oh my God, I thought you were coming back on Thursday.

Reem: Hiiii Jaanu! No, I specifically told you I would be here by Wednesday.

She came up to me and engulfed me in a warm hug. I shoved the blanket completely off and tried to stand up. Reem's eyes went wide when she saw my plastered leg. I told her the whole story and she felt sorry about not being there to take care of me. I was just so relieved that my roommate was back. I missed her so much. I turned to check my phone's screen and saw that it was just 2 am. I asked her how her trip to her home had been. She was super excited to tell me everything. So as we unpacked her suitcase together, she narrated everything while I dialed up Anushka. She would be really happy to meet her too, I'm pretty sure she was missing Reem. I heard a sleepy voice talk into the phone and I told her that Reem was back. She said she would be there in a while in an excited tone. And sure enough she walked in through the door and practically jumped on Reem, hugging her. Reem's face instantly lit up when she saw Jaanu. That's when I noticed someone else's presence in the room. I saw Siddharth standing at the doorway smiling slyly as he was texting someone. He looked up to see me after 2 whole minutes and barked at me that I should be asleep by now. Then he walked up to Reem, who hugged him, and to which Siddharth responded. 

Jannat: What the heck are you doing up and above at 2 am?

Sidd: Honey, hate to break this to you, but I should be asking this to you

Jannat: Answer my question you dimwit

Sidd: Didn't I tell you? Anushka and I were studying in the library. 

Jannat: Till 2 am? Wtf is wrong with you guys?

Sidd: Right, so we ended up wasting about 2 hours after dinner so we had to cover up everything. And since you called her to come here, she wanted me to come along too.

Anushka: The syllabus is too long dude, don't even get me started

Reem: Nerds 

Anushka: Hey, you would have done the same thing okay?

Reem and Anushka started talking to each other and Siddharth came up and sat beside me. He handed me his phone and I saw his mom's contact on the screen. He had sent her a picture of me smiling with my eyes completely closed and texted her, "Your doll is recovering well". Aw, that's such a cute picture. Wait, where he did he get that? I voiced the exact same question to him.

Sidd: I am a pro at capturing candids bro

Jannat: You never told me this

Sidd(winks): Maybe because I'm saving this secret for a surprise. Okay, that's it, no more questions. Reem why the heck are you so late?

Reem: Mine was a midnight flight. 

As the room filled up with the indistinct chatter of Anushka and Reem, I went through Instagram quietly. And Siddharth's story stood first on the story list. I smiled as I saw his profile picture. It was a picture of me and him wearing oversized hoodies with starbucks drinks in our hands, smiling like idiots at the camera. That picture was taken last year on Christmas. I smile at it everytime I see it.

Siddharth smiled at me as he saw my face light up when I saw that picture. 

Sidd: We look so cute 

Jannat(smirks): I look cute, but I don't know about you

He literally put his arm around my neck and pretended to choke me in a playful manner and I ended up resting my head onto his chest scrolling through Insta. Technically, we both were scrolling through my Insta.
