Chapter - 32 Raabta

Jannat's POV: He stood in front of me looking into his phone as he chewed his chewing gum nonchalantly. He appeared as if he had absolutely no cares in the world. And that irked me. I was irritated. I was so very nervous. It was my turn to sing next. Yes, the day of the competition had finally arrived. The person before me was almost finished, singing the last verse of the song with utmost sincerity. I was backstage with Siddharth. I was beyond scared at that very moment. My heart beat could prolly beat the steam engine's velocity. Shucks, I couldn't even stop to breathe. I poked Siddharth on the shoulder. He looked up from his phone to see my glassy eyes. He instantly arched his eyebrows and I started bantering about how I hate it when he does things without telling me like for example signing me up for this stupid competition. I wanted to cry and run away. I had a few more minutes before going on stage. I ranted non stop and of course, he got angry. He held my head with his huge, warm hands. I let his fingers seep through my hair beside my ears. He brought my face closer to his and I just stood there speechless. 

Sidd: Stop ranting idiot. Now listen to me and listen good. You CAN do this. Just go out there and close your eyes, sing the song and get back to me. That's it. I have faith in you. Rock it. 

And then he let go off my head and gave me a smile. Anushka popped up in front of us soon enough to tell me that my name was being called. God, this is it. This is the moment. Siddharth and Anushka ran to join the audience as I went on stage. I froze when I saw the number of people in front of me. Sidd told me only a few people would be there- The whole freaking college is here! But hey, I can do this. I went on stage silently and grabbed the mic from the host. She gave me a warm smile before whispering to me that the stage was mine. I stood in front of everyone and smiled.

Jannat: Hi everyone, wishing you all a good evening. I'm Jannat, and this song is for the most annoying person I know.

Jannat's POV: I didn't want to shut my eyes cuz I wanted him to know what he meant to me. I looked at him in the audience and sang this song for him with all my heart. He had a blank look on his face. Maybe cuz he didn't want to distract me. His favourite song. When I started with the first verse, everybody in the audience moved along with the melodious tune as they wavered their phones, which emitted torch light. I can't believe I conquered my stage fright. It was pretty easy to be honest. Maybe cuz all I did was look at Siddharth all the time. Anushka cheered me on non stop, standing beside him. That moment was beautiful. I finished the song and the auditorium was filled with a huge round of applause. Looked like they enjoyed it. Makes me happy. The judges looked at me and clapped vigorously. I smiled at them and after voicing thank you, I left the stage. The judges would be announcing the winner at the end. I ran to the backstage to see Anushka standing there waiting for me. I jumped with her excitedly and she told me how happy she was.

Anushka: JAANUUUUU, YOU NAILED IT! You did it! You conquered your stage fright baby 

Jannat: Thank you Jaanu, but it wouldn't have been possible without you and Sidd!

And then, in a jiffy, Riyaz came up and hugged me. 

Riyaz: What a brilliant performance dude! 

Jannat: Thank youuu

My eyes searched for the one person whom I really wanted to see. He wasn't there though. Reem and Avneet congratulated me too. They dragged me to the audience to see the other performances. I went along as the next contestant started singing his song. Oh God it was the creepy dude. He was after me really? But anyway, he said this is for someone really special, and beautiful. He looked at me and started singing the song Main agar kahoon. Are you serious?! Trying to woo a girl by flirting is one thing, but have you ever had a guy sing for you? I was flattered. The way he looked at me and pointed at me during the line, main agar kahoon tum sa hasin, kaayanat main nahin hai kahin. That's when I felt a hand wrap itself around my hand. The warmth. I didn't even need to look at the person, I already knew who it was very well.
