I ran to the theater after the last bell of the school day rang. There was already a large crowd of people.

I made my way through it. "Excuse me."

Once I finally made it to the front, I ran my finger down the list of names.

"Please, please, please." I whispered to myself.

It was there. Lead: y/n y/l/n.

I couldn't believe it. Lead. I got THE LEAD role in the last school play of my senior year.

I squealed and ran out the school doors. I got into my car and raced home, wanting so badly to tell my parents the news.

"Mom! Dad!" I swung the door open and kicked off my shoes, chucking my backpack somewhere.

"What's wrong?" my Dad rushed over to me, my mom running right behind him.

"I got the lead!" I jumped up and down.

"Oh my gosh!" my Mom yelled.

They both gave me a tight hug, each giving me a kiss on the cheek.

"Congratulations." my Dad smiled.

"Thank you."

"We have to celebrate." my Mom said.

I waited in the bathroom across the theater after the bell rang, checking every so often to see how many people were still around the casting list.

Once everyone left, I went up the the list.

I ran my finger down it, looking for my name.

It wasn't there. Not by the part I auditioned for, not as an extra or an understudy.

"Fuck." I groaned.

I don't have any role in the last play of my senior year.

I walked out of the school, sluggish and mood killed. I drove the long way home full of complete disappointment and defeat.

Walking into my house, my mom was sitting on the couch; reading.

"Well?" she put her book down and got up.

"I didn't get a single part."

"Oh, honey. I'm so sorry." she came over and gave me a hug.

Some tears escaped from my eyes and I wiped them away quickly.

"They don't know what they're missing out on," she said "you're an amazing actor."

"Thank you."

"Why don't we do something to cheer you up."

"Like what?"

"Anything you want to do." she smiled.

"I think I'm just going to spend the rest of the day in my room. I'll just do some homework or something."

Her smile turned to a frown. "Don't beat yourself up over this. This was just a school play, you'll move onto bigger and better things in the next few years. I know you will."

"Thanks Mom." I said giving her a hug.
