With everyone walking up the stairs to Isla's room, Isla was full of zest, chuckling and smiling, excited with the prospect of showing off her room to her father's friend, the Lord Inquisitor, and his two companions that were very sweet to her.
"What do you think?"
When Paladin arrived at the top of the stairs, Isla already was holding her door open. Merelona and Violet, both of whom arrived after Paladin, slowly walked over to the room and entertained Isla.
"Wow! I'm super impressed!" Merelona placed her hands on her hips, and she looked down at Isla. "I think I need some advice from you, my own room looks like nothing compared to this!"
"Having such a clean room like this must make you really proud," Violet said.
Isla eagerly nodded
"I am really proud of my room! And I can give you some really good tips about keeping a clean room! It isn't hard at all if you have a schedule!" Isla responded.
Merelona chuckled and proceeded to pat Isla on her head, making her blush and confused, but after a few gentle pats on the head a smile brighter than the sun appeared on her face.
"Merelona seems to be good with children," Paladin mumbled.
Which makes me feel guilty, because if Merelona truly stays loyal to me, she will never have any children of her own. Not as long as I am chained by the curse - that has no cure.
"Do you ever plan on having children of your own, Paladin?" Mordred overheard Paladin, and so she turned to him. "I think you could be a rather good father."
Paladin sighed
"I do not intend on having children."
"Oh? And why is that?" Mordred crossed her arms. "You know, either one of your companions seem like they would be good partners for you, and good mothers. You should really consider it, you could be given a new outlook on life if you did."
Both Violet and Merelona blushed as they eavesdropped in on what Mordred and Paladin were talking about, but they were not the only ones, Paladin's face slowly turned red as it was abundantly clear that they heard what she suggested, and because of what her suggestion entailed.
Come on Mordred, did you really have to say that in front of them? Those two are still in competition against each other as well, although it has mostly died down from what I can tell. But, I really don't want to have the competition between them heat up - and become what it was when they first met.
"There are certain reasons behind my statement," Paladin turned to Mordred, "and because of those reasons, I can never have any successors," Paladin then turned back to Isla.
"Annnnnd what are those reasons?" Mordred asked.
Paladin crossed his arms and lowered his head
"There is a curse that came with my newfound power, and because of that curse I shall never have children of my own," Paladin explained.
"So why don't you break the curse?""If it was that simple," Paladin turned to Mordred, "my predecessor would've broken the curse himself. But it isn't that simple, and I have no clue how the curse would be broken myself. I wouldn't know where to start, I wouldn't know what I would need, and I wouldn't know what I would have to sacrifice."
Simply put, me having children of my own is out of the equation. I shall never, ever have children of my own blood. I cannot take the risk. Alpha refused the Black Rose, and he had more information about the curse. How can I go against his decision? So I shall never take the risk of the Black Rose, and will always be lacking a successor of my own.
