Standing at the bow of the ship - where the endless waves of wind blow in and send our hair collectively flying in the other direction, silence overtook the front as me, Jingks and Syr all stared at each other and waited for it to be started.
"How long have you been part of the Freya Family?" Jingks asks.
Good question...
Depending on how long she has been part of them, we may or may not be able to trust her...
But more importantly, if the members of the Freya Family are unable to disobey a command given to them by Freya, how did she manage to escape the Spades Empire, and go against Freya's will?
"How did you manage to disobey Freya's orders?" I added on.
Syr sighs and turns to the ocean, which makes me wonder if she was bothered by the question asked by me and Jingks.
"Well..." Syr deeply sighs.
I understand that she's probably bothered by the questions and is reluctant to answer them, but we have no other choice but to get the answers.
"Not everyone in the Freya Family joined against their wills," she explains," and I am one of those who joined freely."
She willingly joined the Freya Family?
She very well could betray us if she willingly joined them...
More importantly, not everyone in the family joined against their wills and that little fact changes my opinion of the Freya Family a tiny bit - making it better, but as I think about it the thought of all those people willingly joining makes me lose a ton of respect for them.
Nine out ten of those who joined likely did it for the sex!
But if not everyone joined against their wills, does that mean the ones who didn't are able to do whatever they wish and are able to go against Freya's will if they so wish?
Clearly that is the case... since if it wasn't, Syr wouldn't be here.
"Why did you willingly join?" Jingks asks.
Syr was silent for a moment before answering.
"I joined the Freya Family ten years ago, willingly joining because I had no home, no family, no responsibilities or a way of living, and I didn't know what to do on the streets - nor did I want to be on the streets..." she explains.
So she joined the Freya Family as an act of survival?
Or... did she join the Freya Family because she was seeking the compassion and love of a group of people, as well as a feeling of belonging and responsibility?
"But over the span of those ten years," she continues, "I dealt with constant abuse from everyone in the Freya Family... Hate being displayed towards me, name-calling, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional and mental abuse, the other members of the family showed no mercy because of the parentless, poor and homeless background I came from..." she then deeply sighs. "Well, not everyone showed such abuse. Avinay was always sweet and kind to me."
I can only imagine the amount of bedtime crying from dealing with abuse like that all day long... Personally, I couldn't deal with that bullshit, especially not for ten years.
That shit fucks you up too...
"Why leave now?" Jingks asks. "Out of all the times you could've left, why did you decide to leave now instead of leaving some time before - there was nothing stopping you from deciding to not deal with all the hate."
I wonder why she didn't leave earlier as well, but unlike Jingks, I'm able to make an accurate assessment based off of what she's already said;
She didn't have anywhere else to go, and being part of the Freya Family gave her a safety net - which she would lose if she left.
