the following day, they left to weasleys wizard wheezes in diagon alley.

almost everyone from hogwarts there, including lily's best friends.

"matt don't you dare," kim threatened as he put a nose-biting teacup against her nose as she read a product.

"lily i want these," ernie smiled childishly, holding a box of fireworks in his hand. lily giggled at him.

"buy them yourself."

"but lilyyyy," he whined, just to annoy her. "i want you to buy them," he whispered trying to sound sexy, only making lily laugh more and push him away.

ron watched with a scowl, knowing ernie was only all over her because ron had just told him he dropped out of their race.

hermione noticed and elbowed his shoulder.

"go talk to her."

"i can't. why don't you go talk to the t word? she's all alone," he nudged her back, smiling as hermione blushed. she went over and started to talk to talia who was looking at the love potions, becoming extremely embarrassed.

lily frowned as she saw ron and hermione together.

she felt sick to the stomach, knowing she wasn't anything compared to hermione. she couldn't help it.

"lily, you going back to ernie's?" ron asked, looking somewhat distraught.

"i am, promised ern i would," she walked up to him, looking at the box he had in his hand.

"i get it. and your stuff?"

"already there," she said, following him up the stairs.

"how much for this?" he asked the twins.

"five galleons," they said in unison.

"how much for me?"

"five galleons," the two smirked.

"i'm your brother," he scoffed.

"ten galleons," they sneered, turning around.

"i'll get for you," lily said, but ron refused.

"it's fine. let's go," he said, hermione and harry leaving ahead of them. "you coming?"

"always," she smiled softly.

they started walking through the people in the store.

"hi, ron," said lavender brown, looking at ron dreamily.

lily and ron both turned around with almost identical looks.

"hi," ron said, looking at lily who shrugged.

they giggled a bit as they left the building, lily telling ernie she'd be back soon.

"how are fred and george doing it? half of the alleys closed down," hermione sighed.

"fred reckons people need a laugh these days," ron said, sharing his cracker with lily.

"i reckon he's right."

they walked a bit more and hermione exclaimed sadly, "oh no. everyone got their wands from ollivander's."

lily frowned looking at the busted building. she hated the feeling of sadness she got from these dark times.

they followed harry into the store and looked around at the destroyed building.

she looked outside and noticed malfoy and his mother. she nudge ron, who looked as well and decided to tell harry.

"is it me or do draco and mummy look like two people who don't wanna be followed?"

the four left the abandoned building and went to the entrance to knockturn alley.

lily stopped ron.

"i- i can't go," she said, looking into the alley as harry and hermione left, tailing draco.

"why not?"

"it's a little dumb. but i promised ced to never enter. i don't break promises."

ron nodded understandingly.

"see you at school okay? be safe," she smiled before running back to ernie at the shop.

"look, jackson and matt are trying to hit on those girls," he laughed uncontrollably.

"you're such a tool," she teased.
