The News

Chapter 63 - The News

      ANNE AND RUBY were still on they're way back to Anne's house. Since Anne was having a little breakdown ruby decided to ask the driver if they could take the ride slower. He of course accepted and ruby's been trying to keep Anne sane ever since.

"Anne, I'm pregnant! Just imagine our babies being best friends! Just like us, mine will be a few months older but you're a few months older than I am so it's fine!" Ruby said. Anne nodded her head, she still couldn't believe this was actually happening. She was also stressing out about how to tell Gilbert or how he'll act after she tells him.

"That sounds like a great way to put it ruby" Anne starts. Ruby sighs thinking that she actually calmed Anne down.

"But all I can think about is how Gilbert's going to act, I mean we didn't exactly plan for this to happen! What if he wanted to wait a little longer before we had our first" Anne exclaimed.
"I know it's scary. I mean I was off the hook with telling Moody since he was right there when I got told. But he was very supportive and always has been. I just know that Gilbert will do the same" Anne nodded her head and smiled at ruby.

"Oh my goodness! I need to tell Diana and Marilla and Jane and Tillie and-"

"You can wait to tell them. Gilbert's the one who needs to know first, he is the father after all" she chuckled. Anne sighed, she understood that she was probably making ruby annoyed with all of her stressing thoughts. But in reality Ruby just wanted to help Anne because she knew how scary this was at first.

"Looks like we're here. I'll grab the food that I made" ruby said with a smile.

"Oh no, you don't have to" Anne said while getting out of the carriage. Ruby shook her head and spoke "no no it's fine! You and Gilbert can have it for dinner" ruby smiled. Anne smiled knowing that Ruby would just continue.

Anne sighed and looked at her front door, she hoped that Gilbert would be excited about the news. Ruby walked up towards Anne and looked at her face.

"Anne, it'll be fine. I would say that I can stay if you'd like but I feel like this brand new news should be between Gilbert and you" ruby suggested. Anne nodded her head and took a deep breath. "This is so confusing, and yet it's not at the same time. I'll just make some dinner or place dinner on the table and I'll tell him then" Anne said. Ruby chuckled and opened the door for Anne who had most of the food in her arms.

"Thanks"

"I'll come by tomorrow to see how it went" ruby said. Anne thanked ruby for coming with her just before she left.

It was a few hours after Anne had gotten home. She had made lunch while Gilbert was working on the fence trying to finish it on time. He opened the door and said "this looks amazing but I need to change. It seems I've made some holes in these pants. It sucks, these were my favourite!" Gilbert whined and chucked.

Anne nodded her head and followed him up.

He came out of their bedroom with new pants not expecting Anne to be waiting outside. "Woah you scared me!" He chuckled. Which made Anne laugh.

He could tell something was on her mind, maybe it had to do with the doctors appointment. He walked up and stood in front of her and asked.

"So what happened at the doctors?" Gilbert asked. Anne stuttered and walked into their bedroom. She sat down on their bed and looked up at Gilbert with a small smile. She didn't know how much longer she could keep this in.

"Was it serious? Because I can go get some medicine or-or take you back to the doctor or uh" Gilbert said. He followed Anne into their bedroom and sat down beside her. "I'm pregnant" Anne blurted out. Her eyes went wide knowing that that's not how she wanted to tell him. She covered her mouth in shock. She looked at Gilbert who hadn't said a word yet, it made her feel unsure on how he felt. Hopefully it was that he was happy.

"Gil?" Anne asked quietly. She was starting to get worried, what if he didn't want a kid this early in his life or what if he-

"This is amazing! Do you know how far along. Well I mean probably a few weeks but still! I'm just a little shocked but this is great news Anne" he said. Anne nodded her head with excitement that he was happy about their situation. Gilbert hugged Anne very tightly but not too tight. Once they pulled away he kissed her and said

"Am I the second to know?" Gilbert chuckled. "Well technically you're the third. I know and Ruby knows. The doctors appointment was a pregnancy test" Anne laughed. She felt so relieved. She could finally talk to this to someone other than herself and ruby, not that she didn't like ruby's comforting words it was just she felt guilty for having Gilbert not knowing why she was going and lying about why.

"Well we'll have to tell Marilla! Oh and Bash and Mary. I'll tell Moody and you can tell Diana. Hold on how are you feeling about this?" Gilbert Asked knowing that Anne can get a little stressed about things.

"Well now that I know you're happy with it, I'm happy with it" she said before she kissed him. "I'm going to be a father" Gilbert said with a smile.

Anne nodded her head with a laugh. "You know I hope they have your hair" Gilbert said quietly and quickly. He picked up a braid, Anne sighed knowing she should've kept her hair up once she got home but she just didn't feel like it. Once Anne realized what Gilbert had just said her mouth opened with a grin. "Gilbert Blythe!" Anne laughed as Gilbert got up and ran to the office. "I hope they have your sense of humour!" Anne yelled with a smile.

Gilbert popped his head out of the door and said "well then they'd be really funny" he winked and Anne shook her head with a smile.

Later that day Anne and Gilbert wanted to start telling their loved ones that they were expecting. Gilbert let Anne tell Marilla first and then they'd tell Bash and Mary next.

"OK Anne are you ready yet?" Gilbert yelled from the outside of their house. Anne didn't answer but soon after ran out of the front door with a smile. "Uh yes I think so" she hopped beside Gilbert. They were driving a carriage but not like the one ruby or Diana have.

"Are you excited?" Anne Asked. Gilbert nodded his head instantly. "I just hope they'll be happy for us" Anne sighed.
