•the spelling bee•

Everything in Anne's life was wonderful. Her beau ,her leg is healed ,her bosom friend , her family and her grades. Anne thought nothing would change that. But she thought wrong.

"Oh my goodness, I didn't expect this . It's just so sudden , my life just got back to the way it was." Anne knew her answer but obviously she was scared.

"Anne . Your life can't always stay the same , you need change . I love you" Anne felt a tear fall down her cheek. she still couldn't believe this was happening.
"I love you too!" Anne nodded her head.

In the present.

"Good morning Marilla , isn't today just the most splendid day? No worries , nothing at all" Anne got the dishes and placed them down on the table. Matthew smiled at Anne .

"I mean , I've never felt this happy , ever!" Anne sat down on her seat and picked up her fork. She took a bite out of her eggs .

"Anne , do slow down. Since your leg is healed you can go back to school . But do be careful . Matthew and I don't want you to break your leg again!" Marilla said.

"Yes Marilla. Well I must be off , Diana and I are walking together to school. We haven't walked together in a so long." Anne got up from her chair and grabbed her bag. She opened the front door , walked out and didn't look back.

"Diana! My bosom friend! I haven't seen you in a couple days!" Diana and Anne ran to eachother . They hugged and laughed .

"I've missed you anne, you and Gilbert are good now ! I'm ever so happy." Anne nodded her head and the two girls started to walk on to school. They heard some leaves cracking behind them.

"Boo" The two girls screamed in fear. Anne frighten herself and bumped into someone. Which scared her even more . When Anne turned her head ever so slowly she saw it was her beau , Gilbert.

"Gilbert!" Gilbert put his hand out to help Anne get up off the ground from bumping into Gilbert.

"I've missed you! How've you been?" Gilbert smiled and kissed Anne's cheek.

"I've been good , just been helping out with Delphine. She's so cute" Diana looked at Anne with a confused and mad look. Diana doesn't know that delphine is Mary and bash's daughter.

"Don't worry Diana . Delphine is Mary and bash's daughter . She is pretty cute, once I got to babysit her and she looked adorable in the outfit she came in" Diana nodded her head in relief .

"How've you been?" Gilbert Asked Anne . Anne shrugged her shoulders and rested her head on Gilbert's arm.

"I don't know , I've missed her so much . I've missed school a lot , I just want to get back to reading in front of the class ." Gilbert smirked and thought about how lonely it's been without Anne at school. She makes school interesting .

"Well schools missed you too and I've missed you" Gilbert , Anne and Diana arrived at school to see everyone looking at them.

"Hey guys?" Anne said in a confused look , even though she knows not a lot of people like her at school but she missed them.

"You're back?" Josie Asked , she didn't like Anne like at all . But she felt bad for daring Anne to walk on the roof and she broke her leg doin her dare. She felt responsible for hurting Anne.

"Yeah Josie , you're probably not happy about it though. I just wanted to say that I hope we can be friends" josie smiled at Anne and nodded her head.

At first anne was very confused then happy then confused again. Anne thought that Josie hated her , why did she just agree to being friends , just like that?

"Anne I feel really bad for daring to to walk on the roof. I never meant you to break your leg . Especially on your birthday . I've thought about it long and hard , I hope you except my apology" Anne smiled and hugged Josie . All the students heard the bell which Moody rings every school day , all the students grabbed their things and rushed into the schoolhouse.

Diana and Anne looked at each other with confusion but shrugged their shoulders and headed into school.

Anne put her coat and hat on the her hanger and grabbed her books. She walked over to her seat next to Diana . Anne was so happy to be back at school, to see all her friends again and start doing tests and getting homework.

Anne felt two eyes staring at her and turned her head to see a certain boy giving her head eyes. She smiled back at Gilbert and stared into his hazel eyes . Mrs Stacy saw them staring , she would've interrupted their little staring contest but now she'll just let it slide . Everyone in Avonlea knew that they'll get married . Everyone knows that their perfect for each other and that know one will get in the way of them.

"Okay today we are going to be having a spelling bee" miss Stacy chose five girls and five boys to compete.

"Tillie spell Beau" Tillie nodded her head and began to spell

"B - E - A -U beau" Miss Stacy nodded her head and move on to the boys.

More and more boys and girls started to spell words wrong until it was three . Anne , Gilbert and Charlie.

"Charlie spell Courting"

"C - O- U- R- T- I-G" miss Stacy shook her head and have Charlie a sorry look . Charlie took his seat , now it's just anne and Gilbert. Everyone knew that this will take forever.

"Anne spell persevere" Anne nodded her head and look at Diana .

"P-E-R-S-E-V-E-R-E" Anne held her breathe until Miss Stacy said it was correct and moved on to Gilbert.

"Gilbert spell forgiveness"

"F-O-R-G-I-V-E-N-E-S-S"

"Anne spell love" Anne looked at miss Stacy in confusion but continued.

"L-O-V-E" Anne spelled very confidently because it was too easy for Anne.

"Gilbert spell school" Gilbert looked at Anne and Anne shrugged her shoulders . Gilbert continued knowing he knows how to spell school.

"S-C-H-O-O-L"

"Anne spell weeks" Anne sighed and finally asked miss Stacy the question Gilbert and Anne were wondering.

"Miss Stacy , with all do respect why are you giving Gilbert and I easy words?" Miss Stacy didn't want to say why so she made up an excuse.

"Because I know you two know how to spell harder words I just wanted to know if you two still remember how to spell easier words" Gilbert and Anne laughed for a little while but stopped once Miss Stacy gave them a look.

"Okay , Okay W-E-E-K-S" all the students started to giggled even Diana. Anne started to question herself if she spelt 'weeks' wrong.

"Gilbert spell engagement" Gilbert was a little took back by this .

"E-N-G-A-G-E-M-E-N-T" .

The reason everyone was laughing is because people made a bet when Anne and Gilbert are going to get engaged.

Cole bet in three months.

Tillie bet a couple weeks.

Diana bet a year .

Miss Stacy bet five months

And the rest bet six months.

Little did anyone know , one of those people would be exactly right.
