"Marilla! I'm going to be a teacher!" Anne shouted as she opened green gables front door . Gilbert came along with her , she had invited him over for dinner for the exciting news.

"A teacher?" Marilla laughed and hugged Anne. She was so happy for her little girl . Gilbert was so excited for Anne and was very happy that he'll be coming with her. Anne turned around to Gilbert and started to speak .

"I invited Gilbert for dinner if that's okay" Anne told Marilla. She nodded her head and went to set up the table . Gilbert took a seat at the table next to anne , a little sparkle shined in his eyes . He looked down at Anne's hand and smiled. She was wearing their engagement ring . She'd been wearing it every single day ever since he proposed. Anne looked over and Gilbert and smiled confused. She laid her head on his shoulder while waiting for dinner to come.

Dinner was over , they had chicken and a salad. Marilla didn't know Anne had such news , she would've prepared a much better dinner. Gilbert said his goodbyes and kissed Anne goodnight. He headed back to his house with Bash and Mary.

"Bash , I have something to tell you . It's exciting and upsetting" Gilbert said as he just got home. He had to tell Bash that their plans will change . That he wasn't going to live here for the summer.

Bash looked up from helping Delphine to walk on the floor in the kitchen , he furrowed his eyebrows seeing that Gilbert looked very serious. He picked Delphine up from the floor and sat her on his lap. "Well? What is it?" Bash asked . Gilbert took a second to think of the words , "maybe Mary should come in here too" he said . He wanted to go with Anne , he needed to support her . He knew that he was going to miss living in the house with them.

Bash nodded his head and got up to go and find Mary. Minutes later the two came out from behind the stairs. Mary looked rather confused and worried .

"Anne got a job in New York. It's a teaching job. She can take anyone with her. She's asked me to come with her . I told her I will. So I can't stay here for the summer , I know you two were excited for me to stay here but it's a great opportunity for Anne. And for me , there're so many opportunities with medical research there." Gilbert took a seat across from the married couple to tell them the news. At first they looked upset and confused. But after a while they started to look almost happy for him . He furrowed his eyebrows seeing them happy , he thought that they would be pretty upset .

"Aren't you two-" before Gilbert could finish the sentence bash interrupted him. Mary took Delphine from bash's lap and started playing with her on the floor beside her doll she got for Christmas.

"We're happy for you gilbert. You're almost 20 . You have to take opportunities that can help your future. But I do except some letters at least" Bash chuckled and patted Gilbert's back . Gilbert nodded with a smile and relief that they were upset with him.

"Are you ready? It's the first time we'll be on our own" Gilbert Asked Anne at the train station. It was two weeks later after the happy couple told their families the news. They had packed their bags for the trip. Marilla was standing behind them waiting to say goodbye to anne. Bash and Mary were doing the same.

Anne nodded her head and turned around to say goodbye to her loving mother. She gave her a huge hug and kissed her cheek "I'll write you every week , I promise" Anne said after kissing her cheek. Marilla nodded her head with a smile . Gilbert waved goodbye to Delphine, he then hugged Mary and Bash in a group hug. He would miss them so much but he was excited to finally get out there in the world.

He picked up their bags and looked at Anne with a little nod. The train stopped and she stepped up the stairs. This was an exciting time . Gilbert took her bags and put it in the storage area. She sat down and looked out the window. Seeing her family and friends waving goodbye to her. Her and Diana had already said goodbye before they left for the train station
