• The talk •

( just so you know Gilbert is 19 and Anne is 17 )

The school day was over , Anne thought it would never end. Guess staying up in your room for weeks changes your seclude a lot.

"Diana , that was so fun! I'm so happy I won the spelling bee" Anne squealed in excitement and looked at her little flower she picked at lunch time. Gilbert caught up with the girls and held Anne's hand.

"Hey Carrots" Anne rolled her eyes and looked into Gilbert's eyes. "Why must you call me the horrific name?" Anne asked.

"Well , that's when I started to like you. When you hit me across the face with your slate." Anne blushed , She never thought her and Gilbert would be courting. If you would've told Anne a couple years ago that she will court Gilbert she would've thought it was a joke and start laughing. Now , she didn't mind at all. Because Anne likes him a lot maybe she even lov- nope too soon.

"So want to hangout on the weekend?" Anne nodded her head and smiled . Diana coughed making sure the two lovebirds knew she was there.

"Well it's my stop, see you guys tomorrow!" Anne and Diana blew kisses in the air until they got too far away and just waved.

Anne turned back to Gilbert and held his hand again. "What do you think the spelling bee was about?" Gilbert chuckled at the question.

"Maybe for miss Stacy to see if our spelling is good?" Anne shook her head .

"Sorry I worded that wrong. I mean all of the words Miss Stacy kept giving us. If you really think about it , it's like our whole relationship! We start to court , then I persevere to tell you about you know who , then we forgive eachother , then it's all good and we're back to loving - I mean liking eachother, then I get back to school.i still don't understand what the weeks part was all about. " Gilbert nodded his head and remembered what word came after weeks and started to cough.

"Do you remember what came after weeks?" Anne shook her head even though she did. She just didn't want to admit because she said it was like their relationship and they aren't engaged.

"Well it was engagement, we aren't engaged so maybe the words weren't about our relationship. I mean we're only 17 and 19 , even though some people do get engaged around this time" Anne stopped Gilbert from speaking.

"So you're saying we could get engaged?" Gilbert nodded his head.

"Yes but , we aren't . That doesn't mean I don't like you I mean we haven't even said ' I love you ' yet ."

"You just did" Gilbert looked at Anne with confusion and laughed. He loved how much Anne has changed . When she first got to Avonlea no one really liked her , she was shy and didn't really let anyone be kind to her. Now she has lots of friends and is outgoing and lets people be kind to her. Maybe it was because Anne was afraid of leaving and having to say goodbye again to people she loves .

" well I'll meet you at green gables fence?" Anne said while opening up the front door to green gables.

"Why Hello there Gilbert , please do come in"Marilla was a little frighten to see Gilbert because Anne normally came home alone.

Gilbert thanked Marilla but declined . "I'm sorry but Bash is expecting me to be at dinner. He has some big news" Marilla smiled at Gilbert . She was glad anne found a boy like him.

"Oh alright then. Have a good night!" Marilla waved goodbye as she walked into the kitchen tending to the food. Anne and Gilbert hugged goodbye .

"Bash we have a serious problem!" Gilbert walked through the front door and sat down on his seat at the dining table.

"Yes Blythe? Let me guess you lost the spelling bee?" Gilbert chuckled as he took off his bag and placed it on the floor.

"Yes and no" Bash looked at Gilbert confused but continued cutting the carrots for their dinner. Gilbert found a mango and took a bite out of it.

"Hey! Dinners soon Blythe. You're going to be full once it's ready!" Bash looked at Gilbert with a ' seriously' look.

"Sorry . So today at the spelling bee , Miss Stacy was giving Anne and I odd words to spell." Gilbert took a breathe as he was tired from running the way home. Bash cut in before Gilbert could begin again.

"Spelling are like that right? You get big weird words to spell. Your teachers probably just trying to challenge you" Bash hummed to himself while mixing all the vegetables together.

"No , they were easy! Anne thinks they are about our relationship but I don't think so" Gilbert sighed and leaned back on his chair.

"What were the words?" Bash laughed. He knows sometimes Gilbert overthinks things and he comes to bash to help him out.

"Well it was , Preserve, forgiveness, love, school, weeks then um" Bash looked at Gilbert to continue.

"Engagement" Gilbert rolled his eyes knowing how dumb it sounded but it took a turn.

"Oh , it does really sound like your relationship." Gilbert shot up from his chair with his eyes wide. Bash never agrees with Gilbert silliness.

"WHAT?" Gilbert didn't want to admit it, but why did miss Stacy give them those words?

"Yeah , I mean Anne tried to persevere to tell you about Alice , then you two forgave eachother , then you lo-" Gilbert interrupted bash right before he was going to say 'Love'

"Like. We haven't said that word yet" feeling embarrassed again Gilbert leaned back into his chair. Bash started to laugh so hard he almost fell on the floor.

"Really?" Gilbert nodded his head.

"Yeah , we want to make sure that we do!" Bash kept laughing , so much that Mary walked into the kitchen wondering what on earth was happening.

"Okay , Okay I'm done" bash wiped a tear off his cheek from laughing .

"You guys will finish school and then get engaged" Bash said calmly. Gilbert's eyes went wide again. Yes he liked Anne but he didn't know Bash thought that they were going to get engaged.

"Yes Blythe , i See the way you two look at eachother. It's pretty obvious" Gilbert sighed and got up to help mary with Delphine.

Anne heard knocking on green gables front door. She quickly got up from her desk and ran downstairs to see who it was.

"Diana? What on earth are you doing here?" Anne asked with confusion. Anne let Diana in and the two girls sat down at the dining table.

Diana was out of breathe and looked very upset.

"My parents , their . They don't want me going to queens!" Anne was took back by this. How could they? They know that all Diana ever wanted , to go to queens.

"Oh Diana. Come here" Anne and Diana hugged which made Diana fell a lot better. Once they stopped Anne got an idea on how to help her bosom friend.
