-----Certain amount of time later------
You walk into the dojo for your daily training. You're surprised to find Leo and Splinter taking in hushed tones.
"Good morning Sensei" You make yourself known
"Good morning Y/N" Splinter greets you
"I can come back when you're done" You offer
"It is ok" Splinter assure you "We will simply be having a slightly different session today."
"Yes Sensei" You say, taking your spot on the carpet.
"Leonardo has told me you've asked him to help you with your training" Splinter says
"Yes Sensei" You say "The way he teaches make sense to me."
"I see" Splinter says, stroking his beard "We will discuss how this may work. But you will also have the others train you in certain things as well. There are many things that they can teach you well. Only going by one teacher and technique is not the best use of the resources and people around you."
"Yes, Sensei" You say
"But yes, I believe Leonardo would be a good fit to take over more of your training." Splinter says "So in order to know where you are, today I will assess your skills with the help of Leonardo"
"Everything?" You ask
"Yes" Splinter confirms "There are no drills, this will simply be a sparring match in which you will attempt to disarm and pin your opponent."
You and Leo slip into your starting positions and Splinter gives you the words to begin.
True to Splinter's word, Leo doesn't hold back like he normally would. You knew he was still holding back enough to give you a chance, but not enough that'd it be easy. The moment it'd look like you were going to gain the upper hand, Leo would up his game. You knew that Splinter wanted you to give it your all, so you did. Minus scratching Leo with sleeping potion dipped claws, you used everything you had been taught. You're able to relieve Leo of one of his katanas and get a number of really good hits in before Sprinter signals you to stop.
"Well done Y/N" Splinter praises your performance,
"I lost thought" You say "I was unable to fully disarm and pin Leo like you asked me to."
"But you fought a more skilled opponent and partially disarmed him" Splinter says "Despite the fact that you were outmatched you kept fighting. You gave the match your all and did not think about giving up, thought you knew there was a very high chance that you would lose."
"You wanted to see if I had perseverance?" You ask
"I wanted to see how well you would use what you've learned against someone you know to be stronger" Splinter says "I gave you a task and you could have refused, given up or run away, but you stayed and did your best. You didn't back down and did what you had to. You are ready."
"Ready?" You repeat "For what?"
"To join my sons on patrol" Splinter says
"What do you say Y/N?" Leo smiles "You wanna join us tonight?"
"As if you have to ask!" You gasp "Heck yes!!"
"You have a long night ahead of you" Splinter says "You will use the rest of the day for practice and rest."
"Yes Sensei" You say, trying to contain your excitement.
"Now off with you both!" Splinter orders with a smile "I think there are a few people waiting to hear what your answer was."
