It's been over a month since the haunted house and everything had been pretty quiet. There had still been the usual Foot and Krangg activity, but nothing huge. Until now that is. You wake up with a smile on your face. It's a few weeks before Christmas! You look over at your calendar and a wave of grief washes over you. This was around the time your Mom would begin the holiday prep. You missed Christmas last year due to the fire and everything that came with it.
You're filled with mixed feelings at the thought of past Christmas'. The cooking, decorating, and the late night walking and talking in the snow. There is a soft knock at your door.
"Y/N?" Mikey calls
You shake your head to clear your thoughts before answering "Yes?"
"You want some breakfast?" Mikey asks
"I'll be out in a minute" You say "Just start without me."
"You got it" Mikey says, dashing back to the kitchen.
You do one last check in the mirror to make sure to tear evidence is left and make your way to the kitchen. You can smell the pizza eggs by the time you hit the TV room.
"Morning Y/N." Leo says, upon your entrance
"Morning" You reply
"You ok?" Donnie asks
"I'm all good" You say "Why do you ask?"
"You just look tired" Donnie says "You sure?"
"I'm sure" You say "So what are we doing today?"
"The usual" Raph shrugs, without looking up from his breakfast "What else would we do?"
"Oh ok" You say , trying to hide your disappointment
"Was there anything else you would like to try today?" Master Splinter asks, walking into the kitchen.
"Oh, it's nothing" You say
"Come on girl!" Mikey pouts "You hardly ever pick what we do, it's your turn."
"Yeah Y/N" Leo says "you always have good ideas. Let's hear it."
"Just as long as it doesn't involve makeup" Raph says "unless of course it's going on Mikey, then I don't have a problem with it."
"Come on Y/N" Donnie encourages
Their excitement makes you smile.
"What do you guys do for Christmas?" You ask
"Nothing really" Donnie says
"We don't have training that day" Leo says
"We went out and looked at all the cool lights last year" Mikey says
"Oh" You say "No decorations? Or cookies? Or a tree with presents?"
"No" Mikey says, his eyes sparkling "But that sounds like fun!! How do we start?"
"Hold on Mikey" Leo says "Sensei needs to be ok with this."
"Would you mind if I shared some of my Christmas traditions Master Splinter?" You ask
"Of course" Splinter chuckles "I have not celebrated a holiday as I used to since the day I and my sons were changed"
"Thank you Sensei" You smile.
The thought of Christmas without your parents made you want to cry, but the looks of excitement and curiosity of your new friends fills you with Christmas spirit.
"How do we start?" Mikey asks, practically bouncing up and down.
"Cookies" You say
"Yes!!" Mikey says, running to the cupboard and pulling out everything that was needed.
Mikey's enthusiasm makes you giggle. Watching him rush about the kitchen must have been like when your Mom watched you rush around when you were younger.
"What makes a cookie a Christmas cookie?" Donnie asks
Mikey, who had been pulling things from the fridge before stopping cold in his tracks and turns to you. "Yeah, Y/N. How do you make a cookie into Christmas?"
"You guys really haven't heard of Christmas cookies?" You ask
"Not really" Leo admits
"What about April?" You ask "She's been around for a while, she must have told you guys about some of this stuff."
"The first few years she was here we didn't have much time" Donnie says
"She tried one year" Raph says "But then the Kranng did something and we never got back to it."
"And when she got her Dad back, she would spend the day with him" Donnie says
"Well you guys are about to get a crash course in Christmas" You grin
"I've texted April a list of what we need." You say "But there are a few things that we can get started with."
"Cookies?" Mikey asks hopefully
