3 years later
You sigh with contentment as you stow the last suitcase under your bed. You'd just moved into your new and permanent apartment in New York. After two years of training and minor missions, three years of undercover work and living out of a suitcase, you finally had a place to call your own. You've been given a permanent position as the New York contact. Basically means you'd ferry information and agents though your area as the CIA needed. You would gather intel in your area and help set up agents when they would pass through. Your apartment had been fully furnished, so all you had to do was bring your clothes and make the place feel more like home. It has more room than you could ask for. A large bedroom of your own, a room for all your equipment and another for guests. When signing the paperwork, you noticed that it was listed as a two bedroom, one bathroom place. You'd been warned to be careful who you let come over and to keep any guests to a minimum lest it get out that you had more room then a single girl needed in the midst of New York.Either that or you'd have to pass yourself off as a lottery winner or an heiress. And neither of those would help you keep a low profile. Glancing at the clock, you note that it's almost ten thirty.
"The guys won't be out for another hour or so" You think "But it'd be nice to get out for a bit."
You change into your stealth uniform (minus the body armor of course, who wants to lug all that around?) and pull a certain shadow box from your sweater drawer. You lift the lid and relish the feeling of being able to use your neko-te again. It had been so long since you'd been able to think about even putting them on. They were begging to be used on some Foot or Kranng. If they're still around that is. You'd done your best to keep up with the news from home, but it's not like what the turtles did ever made the news. You had to read in between the lines of the bigger stories, but that never told you very much. Or rather, it never told you what you really wanted to know. You and Leo had been able to write for a while, but then you were given your first undercover assignment and those letters had to stop for obvious reasons. You told Leo as much as you could and promised to write the moment you were allowed. It hurt so much for the first few weeks, but ever so slowly you got used to it, but the thought of reuniting with your love was never far from your mind. It was soon after your mission was over that you were informed that you would be moving to New York. In a moment of pure bliss, you decided to make your return a surprise.
You open the window and head up to the roof via fire escape. Despite it being over five years since you'd done roof hopping, everything came rushing back to you.
"Just like riding a bike" You whisper, grinning
It takes you a few minutes to get back into your groove, but soon enough your flips are well timed and smooth just like the old days. You followed the old routes like you'd never left them. Sure, a few things had changed, but the rooftops reamined every constant. You finally stop at the warehouse district and stare up at the sky. Only a few stars could be seen with the city's light pollution, but the moon still shone bright and clear. You thought back to that night, the night of your first and only proper date with Leo. It was sweet and simple. Pizza and talking the night away. Before you headed back, Leo had told you to look up at the moon. He'd told you that every time you looked at it, he would be too and as long as you could see it, he would always be able to find you.
"I'm looking at the moon Leo" You whisper into the silence, clutching the moon pendant in your hand "I need you, come and find me."
You stare up at the moon half expecting Leo to pop up behind you. Your heart is hammering away in your chest. It was slightly due to all the running you'd been doing, but more at the thought of Leo. Of seeing him again, of assuring him that you were back and still loved him, of hearing his voice, of feeling his lips on your own once again. Glancing at your watch, you see that it's almost midnight. The guys would be out by now, so you decide to work your way back through the patrol route.
You spend another 30 minutes looking for them without any luck. It's not until you stop moving and use your ears do you finally find something. The distant noise of fighting. Closing your eyes, you turn slowly, trying to pinpoint the direction. Upon determining which was to go, your eyes snap open and you take off towards the noise. You get there just in time to see the last Kranng running for cover in one of their white vans. You pause at the edge of the roof and peek over the edge.
