After a restless night, it was the day of LanFen's sentence, and she woke up, recollecting part of Shuǐ ChangSheng's words the previous evening...

~

Shuǐ ChangSheng, "'The sheep sought vengeance against the wolf who ate her lamb, but she unknowingly follows the wolf to a den of hungry lions'.

"I'm not belittling your power, Zhao LanFeng. After all, you somehow destroyed two Ruling clans. However, in this case, your own impatience might usher in failure.

"I know you may not mind dying, but if the lions eat the sheep, who will seek vengeance for her and her lamb?"

LanFen had smiled.

She had roughly explained to Shuǐ ChangSheng that she intended to go after the elder, but she hadn't mentioned that the Elder Shuǐ was her biggest suspect...

She just didn't trust Clan Leader Shuǐ, no matter how clever or respectful he might seem.

However, she couldn't help but agree with him for now.

The story of the 'Sheep and Wolf', was the same tale her Master had once used to calm her impatience, and it had a clear moral:

'Don't attack an enemy, without knowing their strength, or knowing the enemy behind them.'

"I'll listen to you, Clan Leader Shuǐ." LanFen replied with a slight nod. "What are you saying I should do?" She asked, and Shuǐ ChangSheng smiled at her.

"Trust me and remain here quietly. We will make a move during that time..."

At present, LanFen's brows were furrowed in thought.

She may not trust Clan Leader Shuǐ, but his offer was certainly tempting.

After all, having a ruling clan backing her would make things somewhat easier.

But more importantly, LanFen suspected that Clan Leader Shuǐ knew more about the Elder than she did, as she had detected a hint of coldness in his tone, when he mentioned the 'Elder'.

If her suspicions were correct, then they had the same enemy, which meant, Clan Leader Shuǐ would keep his word, for now at least...

LanFen sat up as an all too familiar set of footsteps approached.

"Zhao LanFeng. I have been instructed to take you to the first part of your sentence." Lu FengHo had opened the prison doors.

He and Shuǐ ChénLín were fully aware that Zhao LanFeng was Xuè Shèngrén, as they had seen, and knew too much to believe the Clan Leaders. Shuǐ ChangSheng hadn't bothered convincing them, but he had warned them to keep it a secret.

"Handsome Elder brother!" LanFen grinned, as she remembered his relief the previous day. "You didn't want me to die? What a heart-stopping young man!"

Lu FengHo frowned, but again his ears turned a mild red. "Stop saying such things so easily! And look at yourself first, before you address someone else as 'Young man'!"

LanFen wasn't remotely fazed by his outburst. "Brother Lu, don't be serious like that. Handsome types are indeed too serious." She patted the floor next to her.

"Why don't you sit and chat for a while before we go? I could do with a nice long chat before I face my sentence."

She had spoken to tease Lu FengHo, but at the mention of her sentence, she felt unease creep up her arms... She still didn't know what it was, but before leaving the previous night, Clan Leader Shuǐ had casually said,
