The demons carried Yun away from there, but before long, he had completely lost consciousness. They took him from healer to healer, but as the Leader had said, the poison had no cure, and no matter which healer they approached, they were met with the same response.

Finally, they met an old healer, who had learned a bit from Lien in the past.

"The herb the Leader burned is the rare midnight Lily. If only Lady Lien were present... Her blood Lotus is the only thing that can cure such a thing, but I can at least prolong his life a little.

"Normally, the person will be dead by the third day, as it will furiously eat away at their organs, but I can slow the progress down significantly, so we have some hope of discovering a cure."

Luckily, the Healer's treatment had come in handy, and Yun had woken up.

Being a healer himself, he channeled his qi to constantly push the poison away from his organs, slowing down its progress even further.

After that, the old healer and his disciples sought out a cure for the poison, but with no success.

Yun was no stranger to human healing techniques, so he had already known there would be no cure.

'They say the fate of humans is a cruel one... I sought to become human, so I would have more time with Lien, but things turned out like this.'

Yun's only wish was to return to Lien before his time was up, but given how far he had come, he didn't even know where she was, and for the first time, he was tempted to regret his decision to become a human.

But he shook his head. 'I would gladly die a human who loved you, than remain a demon, who watched you die...'

However, just when Yun had given up hope of ever seeing Lien again, Yin Long had found him, after five days of using the talisman to trace him.

"Master Yun!" Yin Long had rushed to him, taking in his master's strange appearance.

Yun had never had a hair out of place, was usually immaculately neat, and had always worn the pristine white robes he had been born with.

But now, his hair was done up in a human fashion, and had a few loose wisps, here and there. There was a smudge on his face, and though his robes were white and neat, they were clearly different, and were patterned, lined and belted in black.

A colour Yun had never liked before.

Yin Long placed his hands on Yun's shoulders. "Master, I would joyfully embrace you, but I know it is someone else's embrace you long for!" He teased.

"Yin Long, will you not change your ways?" Yun asked him, unable to hide his joy at seeing his disciple.

"Nice Robes!" Yin Long joked, by way of answer, and both of them laughed heartily.

Later that night, Yin Long had been devastated to hear all that had happened. "How evil! Greed has taught humans to absorb an elightened demon?

"And how does one even create a slave contract?" He turned to Yun.

"Thankfully, Lien Mei knew something was wrong with you. She sensed it the instant you were poisoned, and then your demon talisman began to burn."

Yin Long brought out the gold and black talisman, and they both watched it, noting that it was now burning rather slowly, but surely. The more it burned, the closer Yun was to death.

"I must have worried Lien-er a lot..."

"You worried me too! And I can't even share qi with you any longer, as you're no longer a demon!" Yin Long complained, as he brought out the qiankun pouch Lien had given him.
