As the days passed, LanFen had stopped trying to leave the mountain and she and QingJun continued to live together.
But she knew she couldn't stay forever, and she began to consider taking him with her...
"What will life be like for you on the outside? How powerful will you be?" She asked one evening.
"Nothing special... I'll be like a normal human. With considerable power, but it would only be the equivalent of the White Realm."
That was impressively powerful, and but not so scary.
It was just a realm away from the Light realm, which meant there would be powers to balance his, and keep him in check, if anything happened.
'Maybe I can take him with me afterall.' She thought.
But at the more definite thought, LanFen was suddenly filled with another fear. What if he lost this power and fell into danger, outside?!
Those in the White Realm were considerable few, but not so few... Almost every Leading or Prominent Clan Leader, or even most clan elders, danced in the White realm...
But then there was the Light realm.
What if someone in the Light Realm came after him?! What if one of the many evil cultivators who killed enlightened demons, happened to be in the light realm?!
She was no match for them, so if one of them killed her, they would get their filthy hands on him!
LanFen stood up suddenly. "I can't bring you with me! The human world is no great place... You're safest here!"
QingJun just smiled. "I'm the happiest to hear that, because it means mother cares about me at least a little.
"But I'm also the saddest. I'd rather take my chances with mother out there, than face what I know is inevitable in here.
"I don't know how powerful I might eventually become. What if I grow bitter, surpass the Mountain's seal, and then leave? Who will be safe then?"
LanFen slowly sat back down.
His words affected her in two ways...
It made her realise that she had indeed come to care for him, not just 'a little' as he had said, but far more than she realised, or had ever intended!
Just one of his smiles made her heart swell, and when he sounded even a bit sad, like he did right now, LanFen wanted to do anything to make him happy again.
She put her face in her hands. 'How did I become like this? Is this what being a parent feels like?!'
QingJun's words also made LanFen realise that deep down, she herself wanted to take him with her...
She still had her doubts, fears and worries, but she couldn't stand the thought of leaving him here all alone, to slowly turn bitter, warped by loneliness, power and hatred.
The thought left an unbearable taste in her mouth.
That night, Elder Xu didn't bother coming out, but pulled LanFen into her spirit realm.
"Old Man Xu! What's the emergency?"
"You're considering taking the boy off the mountain?! I needed to shout so I pulled you in here!"
LanFen neatly avoided the topic. "Ehehe, I envy you sometimes! You get to stay in here with constant sunny weather and azure skies!
"Just yesterday, it rained, and I had to teach A-Jun to build a -."
