"Elder." Wang LiKang cupped his hands in a polite bow, as he paid his respect to the Elder, who sat behind a black curtain.

"The boy is here."

"Hmm." The Elder replied simply, and Zhan YiZhen brought Jun out.

Jun stood alone, at the center of a great hall, facing the black curtain behind which the Elder sat.

He silently studied all the people around him, which included Clan Leader Zhao, Clan Leader Wang, Zhan YiZhen, and about ten others.

Jun made sure to take a good look at all their faces, but try as he might, he couldn't see the so-called 'Elder' from behind the veil.

"Are you going to keep hiding your face behind there?" Jun suddenly asked, surprising the entire hall.

"He can defy the talisman?" The Elder asked, and Zhan YiZhen bowed m apology.

"Forgive me. It's because I'm not powerful enough."

Jun rolled his eyes, and continued addressing the Elder. "Won't you come out of there? I'd like to see the greedy human who wants to absorb five-thousand years of cultivation."

The Elder gave a short, harsh laugh. "I suppose the human that adopted you, both as a demon and a son, taught you nothing about respect for elders."

"My father indeed taught me to respect elders," Jun nodded. "...but not those who behave like lesser demons."

"How dare you?!" A few of them demanded in outrage, but Jun ignored them.

"Besides, as far as age goes, a measly human like you would be born several times over, before you get to my age, don't you think? Only my father is permitted to treat me as a child."

"Ahahahahahaha!" Elder's laughter was cold and hard. "Forgive me for disrespecting you, I tend not to show manners towards my meal."

That rubbed Jun the wrong way, but he remained quiet.

"Bring him here." The Elder quietly ordered, mistaking Jun's silence for resignation.

But Jon had a plan...

He know what he must do to keep everyone safe, but despite his courage, he was still hesitant.

He knew who it would hurt the most.

He held up a hand, as the men approached. "Wait! There's no way for a demon to escape a contract, right?" he asked in a tone remarkably similar to LanFen's.

It was a tone he had heard her use, whenever she wanted to annoy a person to their very core!

"I allowed a low life to form a contract with me, I'm surrounded by other low lifes, and now I'm to be absorbed by the king of low lives?"

"How dare you other such words to the Elder!" Wang LiKang roared in fury.

"It won't be enough to cut out your tongue for such disrespect!" Zhao MinXue thundered, but Jun shrugged, imitating LanFen perfectly.

"Oh? But I only spoke the truth. He's even less than human... Those that sit behind a gilded curtain, allowing unpleasant weaklings like yourselves to run around and approach me instead!"

Most of them rushed toward him in anger, especially Wang LiKang, who had turned an interesting two-toned colour, as he fumed with rage.

"I'm going to cut out your tongue and cut off your limbs! The Elder doesn't need those to absorb you!"

Meanwhile, the Elder had shot to his feet in anger, but unlike what Jun had hoped, he never came out from behind the curtain.

Jun sighed. 'I would have to settle for the identities of those I've seen...'
