.

That night, LanFen patrolled the North and West of the town, while Shuǐ ChénLín patrolled the East and the South. Thankfully the town was quite small, so it wasn't too hard to patrol.

However, nothing happened that night.

'It's not a lesser demon.' They both concluded.

If attacks had been happening every night, then something should have happened this night as well...

Unless the attacker was 'enlightened' enough to know Shuǐ ChénLín and Zhao LanFeng had arrived, so they didn't act.

Before dawn, Shuǐ ChénLín and Zhao LanFeng headed to the places surrounding the town, but like Lord Ming had said, there was no trace of any demon. At least, none they could sense.

A black and gold talisman appeared in LanFen's hand, but Shuǐ ChénLín caught her hand.

"Isn't that...?" He frowned at the talisman, recognising it as the same one that had appeared, when she had used the knowledge demon.

"Ho? You're well deserving of the title of 'Shuǐ genius'!" LanFen said. "You recognised it, after seeing it only once."

"Are you trying to summon a demon again?!" Shuǐ ChénLín demanded. "You don't even know what father will do to you yet, or even your fate in the Shuǐ Clan!"

But LanFen scoffed. "Tch! If Clan Leader Shuǐ allowed his precious successor to accompany me, I'll trust in him for now."

"You're accompanying me, not the other way round." Shuǐ ChénLín calmly countered, but LanFen just shrugged.

"I'm sure 'fire' is petty enough to say the same thing to 'smoke'. Will you stop me? The fastest way to resolve such things, is to 'fight fire with fire', so I intend to use demons.

Shuǐ ChénLín scowled at her, but released her hand, after a while.

He wasn't sure how he felt about enlightened demons, but the little knowledge demon had seemed harmless enough, and quite innocent, now that he recalled the incident.

Shuǐ ChénLín had only gone on a few missions concerning enlightened demons, and they were the evil kind, but he knew there were regions where numerous enlightened demons lived in peace.

He didn't want to be a person who judged a book by it's cover, so till he saw first-hand that an enlightened demon was evil, he would try not to treat them as such.

'If things get out of hand, I can just stop him.' He told himself, as LanFen performed a hand seal, then tossed the talisman in the air.

Elder Xu landed before her, appearing out of her spirit realm, and causing Shuǐ ChénLín's eyes to widen slightly.

He had been expecting another 'innocent looking' demon, but the old man with monkey-like features, had a nasty scowl that surpassed even Clan Leader Kong's own.

"You-!" Elder Xu said, in his usual rude way of greeting.

"Old man Xu! I have a name! Can you use it?!"

"Oh? Which one should I use?!" Elder Xu was about to start listing her many names again, but LanFen held up a hand.

"Fènghuáng-Jun, this grumpy old geezer is Elder Xu! He has the ability to sense other demons' auras, so we can leave things here to him!"

"Did you call me 'Old geezer'?!" Elder Xu raged. "You rude fellow!!"

LanFen glared at him. "Ei? Who was it, that first addressed me an 'You-'?!"
