.
For Half a year, LanFen and Jun lived together in peace...
But that peace was shortlived, as an insidious danger arose in the North.
There were disturbing rumours about people disappearing in a whirlwind of black smoke, and there was almost no doubt that a demon was involved.
And not just any demon...
To be able to steal people like this, the demon must be at least Purple realm, in terms of power.
"We have to investigate this!" The Black Rock Clan Leader complained. "But the big clans won't let us get involved!!"
This angered him, because out of the thirteen people missing, six were from the Black Rock Clan, including his nephew.
And this was the first thing that raised LanFen's guard.
The nephew in question, was someone she had gotten close to during her stay here, and the remaining five were no different. They were all people who she hung around regularly.
To make matters worse, the remaining seven, missing from four other clans, were also people she had associated with, in one way or another.
Whether it was that she had helped them solve a problem, or worked with them, or even just befriended them for whatever reason...
Coincidence?
LanFen didn't have the luxury of thinking so.
Besides, there was something no one else seemed to be considering, and that was the fact that the culprit might not be a demon.
At least, not directly.
Most demons of that strength rarely ever ventured out of their natural habitat in the wilds, or they'd have been noticed and hunted down, before getting so powerful.
No.
The culprit was most likely a human... A Demon Cultivator like her.
LanFen wasn't special... She certainly wasn't strong enough to attract too much attention, and her only enemies didn't even know she was after them yet.
That meant, if people tied to her were suddenly disappearing, the one they were after was most definitely Jun.
The fear that gripped LanFen was familiar, but it was something she hadn't felt since that fateful night, when she had heard the Wang family plot against her mother's life.
She summoned Elder Xu that night, and he didn't hesitate to scold her.
"I warned you not to adopt that boy! Now you are understanding this old man's words! Did you really think no one would notice if he disappeared from that mount-?!"
"Lao Xu, this is not the time for that." LanFen cut in. "I need you to take Lady Mei to the chrysanthemum peak, west of here. That would be the perfect place for her to use her powers. I want her to leave no stone unturned!"
Whether Elder Xu had been right or wrong, LanFen didn't care. She was more interested in Jun's safety.
Soon enough, thanks to Lady Mei's ladybugs, they had discovered the demon cultivator who was making people disappear.
And soon, they had uncovered an intricate web that linked from him, to an unknown secret Sect, to at least two ruling clans, at least six prominent clans, and more than eleven minor clans!
There were so many clans involved that, though LanFen didn't know which clans they were, she knew enough to know that Jun was in immense danger.
"Hmmm." LanFen toyed with the neck of her wine gourd, one evening.
