Present...

Far from being impressed by what LanFen had done, Shuǐ ChénLín was furious.

"You repeat offender! You don't have a conscience! How could you act so dangerously on your own again?!" He demanded.

But LanFen's own brows had drawn together in a pretty, but equally furious scowl.

"Ho? And who gave you the right to jump into danger for my sake? I won't forgive anybody that dares to harm you!" She declared.

"It's lucky for Zhou ZhuFeng, that I couldn't kill him, since my reputation is now linked to the Zhao and Shuǐ clans. If not for those facts, I was far from satisfied, with merely shaming him beyond recovery!"

He had dared to kill people in a fake Plague, but what angered LanFen the most was that it had eventually led to harming Shuǐ ChénLín.

A few seconds passed, as LanFen realised what she had just boldly proclaimed. "Ah, th- that. Because, what kind of disciple would I be, if I don't avenge my master? Ehehehe..."

Shuǐ ChénLín was still staring at Zhao LanFeng in awe.

LanFen hastily looked down at the wine, then proceeded to fill her cup again, wondering what had possessed her to openly declare something like that!

Shuǐ ChénLín moved his own cup closer, indicating she should fill his as well. "Zhao LanFeng, you're really good at surprising people!"

LanFen grinned at him. "Weren't you the 'Surprise attack specialist'?" She filled his cup and slid it over.

"I mustn't say it right? You've saved my life four times now, and even cared for me twice..."

Shuǐ ChénLín was good at playing the villain, while doing good when no one was looking!

She held up her cup to him."Shuǐ Chén! Whether it's to 'go up a mountain of blades, or descend into a sea of fire', I will do anything in my power to protect you from harm." she flung back her head and down the wine.

'That must be it.' She thought to herself. 'Anybody would be grateful to someone who even saved their life once, talk more of four times!'

Lady Mei and Shen looked at each other, then back at LanFen, who was pouring another cup.

Shuǐ ChénLín was drinking his wine to hide his expression. "What a cheesy quote to tell your master..." He dropped his own cup, then quickly changed the subject.

"Why didn't you call your demons to fight with you at the Zhou Manor? Or even back then, when we came to capture you?"

LanFen grinned. "Ever the Shuǐ genius! You even noticed something like that?" she downed her wine. "I'll start from the beginning...

"One day, on my way back from secluded cultivation, I ran into an old man in trouble, which turned out to be Elder Xu.

"That was the first time I encountered one of the evil cultivators, who heartlessly hunt enlightened demons.

"After that, Elder Xu talked me into adopting him. I agreed because when I thought about it, he would still be in danger, if he was left alone. And that tricky old man led me on to adopt four others that were in danger!"

Her tone was annoyed, but her expression was fond.

"By the time I returned to my master, I had adopted five demons. But my master never wanted me to be a demon cultivator, and he ordered me to let them go at once..."

LanFen recalled what her Master had said, and she repeated it...

"People adopt demons and use them to fight or carry out tasks, without caring about how it would make the demons look." he had told her.
