What led to the calamity wasn't really LanFen's fault...

Since the disciples had started flocking to her to teach them, LanFen started spending a few nights trying to improve their techniques.

So on one such night, LanFen was surrounded by a few disciples.

"JunHo, you keep using too much strength for this technique. It's called 'Guiding Wind, Leading Water', for a reason.

"The same way wind and water flow mildly, but can be lethal, is the same principle of the technique...

"It's not about strength, but about qi flow." She explained, demonstrating the stance and the round flowing movement again. Then she stepped away, so he could try it again.

"Tsk tsk tsk! You're already too tense." She lightly hit each of his raising shoulders with her fan. "You need to focus more on your qi flow instead. If not..."

She suddenly appeared into the line of his next attack, and was instantly covered in light blue smoke, as the attack hit her.

"Ah! Disciple Zhao! Why would you step in?!" They all panicked, but then they heard a light chuckle from within the dense clouds of smoke.

LanFen brought out her fan and blew all the smoke away, with a single swing.

She was completely unharmed.

"If your attack isn't properly backed with enough qi, it won't have much of an impact." She coughed a few times.

"However, if your aim was to suffocate the enemy, then this is excellent!"

They all laughed at that, including JunHo himself, especially since parts of LanFen were still covered in the blue smoke.

But it was at that moment, that LanFen felt the strange aura again!

She turned to the disciples. "I have to excuse myself." She said simply, then vanished in an instant, leaving the confused disciples behind.

Even if they wanted to follow her, she had moved too quickly!

By the time LanFen reached the edges of the training grounds, she felt the same strange pain begin to fill her body again.

"Hmph. Think I will let you trap me again?" LanFen was more than ready for that, and she quickly scribbled a large air talisman as she ran. The air talisman wrapped itself around her, then spread over her entire body with a thin black layer.

The pain didn't stop, but it was reduced to a minor annoyance she could ignore.

She had suspected that the wraith's technique was similar to directing one's aura to intimidate or overpower someone. So she had improved on the same black aura shield she had used in the Shuǐ prisons, and against the Clan Leaders' aura.

She stopped suddenly and spun to the left, just in time to avoid the same dense black arrow that had been used to attack her the last time.

And just like the last time, the pain seized immediately the danger had passed.

But LanFen had caught sight of the wraith, hovering at the edge of the trees, and she gave chase at once, following it past the training ground arrays and into the dense forest.

"This time, I will chase you wherever you plan to go!"

She chased after it, leaping from branch to branch, so fast that she stirred up the leaves as she passed.

But just as she followed the wraith into a clearing, the aura became impossibly powerful, so much so that she nearly fell to her knees.

LanFen was suddenly surrounded by more than thirty of the wraiths.
