Some days are hard and that's ok.
Not everyone understands of course, as they either think your just being pure lazy or your just seeking attention. But for people like Nick where he tends to hide his hurt, only very few people know about these days, if any at all.
"Oh my god I haven't seen my boys in what feels like years!"
Nick watched from the porch of his parents house as the chaos started. His parents dogs were barking their loud and obnoxious yelps, their mom was being loud and overbearing, and their dad was trying to hug everyone all at once.
Joe was being smothered by their mom at the moment, while Kevin was being pulled into a very tight and uncomfortable hug, leaving Nick to stand back and watch. Which was just fine because he wasn't feeling the greatest.
"Come in! Your rooms are made, and dinner is just about done." Denise said waving everyone inside.
Nick smiled at his mom and walked in. The house smelled great, and very much like home. Nick suddenly felt a pool of overwhelming sadness wash over him.
Just then, he felt a small grab at his wrist. He looked down and found Joe pulling him along. Joe must have known. "Well we're going to get settled in, and then we will come back down for dinner," Joe said walking up the stairs.
Nick continued forward not paying much mind to anything and found his room. Wasn't big but wasn't necessarily small either, it was cozy.
Nick threw his duffle bag down as he and his brothers were staying over for a couple of nights and flopped down on his bed.
This stay was going to be interesting and it was already starting off with a blast. Nick scooted up to the pile of pillows on his bed and curled up in a ball.
He was tired but no amount of sleep could cure this type of tiredness. He was home and he should feel happy, but he just wasn't.
Maybe that made him selfish, distant, ungrateful, but even the most richest man alive could have everything he wanted and would still find himself feeling alone in a room full of people.
*knock* *knock*
"Come in" Nick called.
The door slowly opened and Joe slipped inside.
"Is it one of those days?" Joe said whispering.
Nick felt his lower lip wobble, "yea. I don't know what set it off." Nick whispered back.
Joe flipped the lights off and turned on the ceiling fan before crawling on top of the bed with Nick.
"Nick there isn't ever a simple reason why people get sad. Some days are hard and it feels like the whole world is against them; but that's why there are people like me and Kevin to help them through it. Make them see that they aren't alone, and that however long it takes for them to see the good in themselves and the world, we will be with them every step of the way waiting."
Nick who was now face to face with Joe on their sides gave a small smile.
"Small steps"
"Small steps." Joe agreed.
"It's getting cold in here" Joe stated after a couple of minutes.
"I like it. I sleep better when it's cold and it also means that I get to curl up in a ball underneath the blankets."
"Yeah I know. Dinner is about done, you want to go down?"
Nick didn't really want to, but he at least had to act normal in front of his parents. Not everyone understood.
