Early next morning I wake to the sound of knocks at my door. My heart skips a beat, hoping its Bucky. Hoping you could see him just one more time. To have him call me his girl again.

Practically running to the door, I swing it open only to see Steve instead. I let my heartbeat calm down, giving Steve a small smile.

"Thought it was Buck right?" Steve says practically chuckling. Nothing ever gets by Steve.

"I was hoping it was." You say a bit red in the face that you actually admitted it, pulling Steve into your apartment and closing the door behind him.

Steve actually let out a chuckle as he made his way to your couch. "You guys are too much, I'm glad you guys finally were able to talk though."

"I mean there wasn't much to say, just goodbye" you sighed taking a seat next to him.

"Come on (Y/N), you don't have to lie to me. I know Bucky finally told you how he felt. I'm sure you told him to." He said looking at you with a sly smile.

"What are you talking about Steve? What do you mean Buck finally told me how he felt?" Confused you look at Steve pleadingly, asking for clarity.

Steve's face looked like he had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. "Gosh you two are stubborn. And now I just put my foot in my mouth real bad. It's not my place to say (Y/N)."

"Steve, come on. Tell me. What are you talking about?" Using the puppy dog eyes you know Steve can never say no to. After a while he sighs defeated.

"Bucky's in love with you (Y/N), he has been for a real long time. I know you love him too. You guys have been bottling this up for so long. I thought finally you two would talk and be honest with each other. I guess I underestimated how stubborn both of you really are." He said shaking his head with a stupid grin on his face.

My mind couldn't grasp the concept. He loves me? Me?

Your face brightens at the news and you flash the widest smile to Steve. The words Bucky said last night now hold new meaning, new weight. Your heart soars. He called me his girl. He meant it.

"Well I'm glad I could make you smile like this. Although Buck's going to pummel me for telling you." Steve said laughing.

You grab Steve in a hug, so happy and content right now. Everything was going to be okay. You will and Steve will watch over each other until Bucky got back, and then everything would be perfect.

"Thank you Steve. Thank you, really." You say as you let him go from your embrace. "Now I'm pretty sure you didn't come all this way to let the cat out of the bag. So what really brought you over here Rodgers?" You chuckle, feeling as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

"Oh yeah... that. Well, I kind of wanted to give you some news." He said looking down sheepishly.

"What now Stevie?" You poke at him.

"Well, I finally got it (Y/N). I got enlisted. I'm going to war." Steve said proudly, taking out his accepted enlistment form from his pocket, showing it to you.

The weight that was just recently lifted from your shoulders, just came pummeling right back down on you like a ton of bricks.

"What...." You shook your head, not understanding. Not willing to understand how Bucky could have left, and now Steve. You were being left behind. Left alone.

"I'm leaving for training today. Who knows... I might even run into Buck when I get to the war." Steve grabs your arm, giving it a tight squeeze.

"Steve. Are you sure about this?"

"Never been so sure of anything in my life (Y/N). I need to do this."

You know he's never wanted anything more. Defeated you accept the fact that Steve has made up his mind. "I know Steve. I just can't imagine you're leaving me too. You need to come back to me in one piece Rodgers. You're the only family I have left. Please."

"Of course I'll come back. You're my family too (Y/N). Don't you forget it." He says grabbing you in for a hug. "I have to go. But I promise I'll be ok. If I see Buck, want me to tell him anything?"

"Yeah. Tell him I love him. I should have said it before. But I need him to know that now. So he can come back home to me."

"You got it."

-.-.-.-

The rest of the day passed pretty uneventfully. After saying goodbye to Steve I stayed home picking up. Trying to entertain my mind of this morning's events. I finally let myself relax a little, a cup of tea in my hand, when someone knocks on my door again. Who can it be now?

A little annoyed, you set your tea down and lift yourself up off the couch to open the door.

"Dr. Erskine?" Somewhat shocked, you let him in.

"Hello Miss. (Y/L/N). I hope I'm not intruding or interrupting anything." He said as he stepped inside.

"No, not at all. Can I offer you some tea?" You say, motioning for him to sit down.

"That would be lovely, thank you."

You grab a cup and pour some tea for him, bringing it to the couch where he was waiting.

"Thank you." He says with a smile.

"Dr. Erskine, what are you doing here? What can I help you with?" You say taking your seat again, tea in hand.

"I told you I would come back, to see if you thought about my offer. To become something more. I believe you have great potential my dear."

I forgot about that. So much has happened these past couple of days. I look at Dr. Erskine in the eyes with determination. "How can I become something more? I wish that were true doctor, but honestly it sounds like a fairytale that you're selling."

He smirks at you before speaking again, "well my dear, I am a scientist. I believe in making things that are impossible. Possible."

He takes a sip of his tea before continuing. "I have a project in which I think you are perfect for. To make someone stronger, a perfect soldier some might say. I have two availabilities for this project. One has been filled. I am hoping you will accept the other."

You let your mind wander. What do I do? You think about Bucky, about Steve. How they went ahead and went to war without hesitance. The three of you always did everything together. Why not this? You said to yourself.

Without hesitation, knowing this was right, you say "Where do I sign up?"
