Fifty-Five

I watched as Bucky cradled Sarah protectively and my heart swelled with happiness. Watching the two of them, I barely noticed when Tony ran through the door.

"(Y/N)...." Tony's voice was a whisper, turning to face him I could see he was standing just shy of the door, shock and relief washing over his face.

"Hey you..." I answered with a small smile and Tony's face instantly light up as he ran over to me, giving me a huge hug.

"Scared the shit out of me Tink." He pulled away from the hug and I was able to get a look at his face again. It was full of shame and regret. "I should've been there quicker. I should've watched over the kid better. Anything. Everything. As long as it would have prevented you getting hurt."

I squeezed his shoulder reassuringly. "Nothing that happened was your fault Tony. What happened, happened. I did what I thought I had to do to protect the kid. You would have done the same." His eyes watered at my words, and he softly nodded. "That kid. He's going to be the death of me. I'm starting to care for him more than I'd care to admit."

Chuckling I grabbed him in for another hug and whispered in his ear, "don't worry. I know you're a big softy, but I'll keep your secret for you." He pulled away with a smirk, "Good. Can't ruin my reputation you know."

"Buck..." I make a motion for him to come closer with Sarah. Tony finally takes notice of their presence and his eyes grow soft with what I can only distinguish as awe. Bucky hands me Sarah and I take a moment to give her a small kiss on the forehead. "Tony, meet our daughter, Sarah Becca Barnes. Sarah, meet your uncle Tony." Tony's face lights up, a smile brightening up his face. "Hey kiddo. Nice to meet ya..." Tony extends a finger to Sarah and she grabs it between her tiny hands. I can hear as Tony sucks in his breath at the act, his eyes widening then softening quickly. "You did good Tink. Real good..."

A small cough then brought us out of our moment, looking towards the source of the sound I see Steve standing by the door. His expression serious, but his eyes were soft with longing. "Steve... come in." I say softly, taking a hand from under Sarah and extending it out to him. Tony's body stiffened at the mention of Steve's name, he makes no move to look at the man, nor separate himself from my side.

Steve looked at my hand but then back to Tony. His eyes then traveled back to Bucky as if silently asking him a question. I turned to look at Bucky, hoping he would assist me. Bucky decided to keep his face calm and collected. I'm guessing that didn't give Steve the answer he was looking for so with a small sigh he slowly made his way to my hand and grabbed it, a small smile appearing in his lips once he held on.

"Stevie, meet Sarah Becca Barnes. Sarah, this is Uncle Stevie." I say softly watching Steve for his reaction. His eyes go wide and I can see tears welling up in them. "Sarah?" He softly asks. "Yeah. After your mom." Steve approaches closer, tears falling from his eyes now, while Tony slowly backs away. "Wow. Sarah. Hi little girl." Sarah makes a move to grab Steve's finger as he waves his hand in front of her.

Breaking the moment I hear Tony clear his throat, "I'll see you later Tink..."

"Tony wait!" He immediately stops his backwards movement towards the door. "Buck, can you get Sarah?" Bucky gets back up from his chair and complies quietly, moving back to the chair in the far corner of the room. Steve backs away from my bed at this, his face serious as stone again.

"Alright. What's going on between you two? I'm asleep for a little bit and everything goes to hell?" I try to be funny in the end of that statement, but I can see from all their faces it wasn't appreciated.

"That's not funny (Y/N). You were seriously hurt. You almost died." Steve answers, his voice serious with a slight undertone of anger.

"And what did that do to you two? I know there's problems. And even if I didn't... it's clear as day seeing the two of you now. So who wants to start?"
