Seventy-One

Standing in a circle I can feel the buzz of energy between us. This is it. Our nerves, our hopes, our excitement. It's all culminating today.

Steve clears his throat and looks at all of us as he begins to speak. "Five years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends... We lost family... We lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back. You know your teams, you know your missions. Get the stones, get them back. One round trip each. No mistakes. No do-overs. Most of us are going somewhere we know. But it doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other. This is the fight of our lives. And we're gonna win. Whatever it takes. Good luck."

Rocket can't help but chime in. "He's pretty good at that."

I chuckle as Scott excitedly agrees. I watch Steve look at me and Nat. "You two watch each other's backs you hear me?"

I wink at him and laugh. "You got it Cap."

Tony smirks at me and shakes his head. "All right. You heard the man. Stroke those keys, jolly green."

"Tractors engaged." Bruce calls out as he joins the group.

Rocket turns to me and hands me Benatar shrunken down, "You promise to bring that back in one piece, right?"

"Uh. Yeah. Sure." I bite my lip as I look at the miniaturized ship. Space. Not going to be my first time there. Don't have too many fond memories.

"As promises go, that was pretty lame." Rocket mumbles under his breath.

I watch as Nat starts shifting her weight side to side excitedly. She looks over to Steve with a look that I can only describe as pure love and happiness. "See you in a minute."

And before anyone can get another word in the world shifts around us.

MORAG 2014

We arrive with a jolt, and I can swear my insides are jumbled up. "Oh god. I think I need to throw up."

I look around and see that thankfully I was not the only one that did not enjoy that. Nat looks pale as she's trying to straighten herself. While Rhodey is bent over breathing deep breathes. Nebula seems to be the only one who doesn't seem too affected. Lucky.

"Let's hurry. There isn't time to waste." Nebula says and I hand her Benatar while trying to compose myself. As soon as the feeling passes, we all get to work. Leaving the pod for Nebula and Rhodey. Once we're done Rhodey and Nebula hug us.

"Take care, okay?" Rhodey says as he pulls away from Nat. She nods her head and looks at me with a huge grin.

"Take that stone and come back. No messing around." He reiterates and smiles at us as we start to board the Benatar.

"See you soon guys." I say to them both.

"I laid out the coordinates for Vormir. All you guys have to do is not fall out okay?" Nebula looks at me and smirks.

Nat laughs and murmurs under her breath, "I think Tony rubbed off on her a little." I just chuckle at her observation.

"You guys watch each other's six."

Nat nods at Rhodey. "You too. See you soon."

We turn and walk into the ship, and the hatch closes as we do so. Taking our seats, we both smile at each other before nodding. The ship takes off and speeds out of the atmosphere of Morag in a flash. I watch Nat's amazement as we fly through space.

She turns to me, her smile brighter and wider than before. "This is it (Y/N). We got this."

"Yes we do." I smile back just as bright and just as wide.
