Walking into the tent you take a seat on the cot inside. Bucky took a seat next to you, while Steve grabbed a chair from the corner desk and sat in front of us both.

"So... who wants to start?" Bucky says, looking between Steve and I. Looking at Steve pleadingly, he gets the hint and clears his throat.

He spends a good time telling Bucky his whole journey to becoming Captain America. Every so often Bucky interjects with a question. Towards the end of Steve's story, Bucky seems satisfied. A boyish grin appears on his face, "well now I'm going to be invisible next to you bud." Steve smiles a boyish grin back, rising to his feet at the same time Bucky rises to his. They give each other a huge bear hug. "It's good to see you again pal." Bucky said as they broke the hug. "Same here pal. Walk me out will ya? I need to go to report to Colonel Phillips for a briefing." As they walk out Steve shoots a glace towards you over his shoulder, winking as he exits the tent.

My breath hitches realizing he was doing this on purpose. Steve's too smart for his own good. I'm going to pummel him later.

I try to steady myself. Taking deep breaths trying to not overthink every possible scenario in my head. I quickly look down at myself, trying to straighten myself out a little more to look more presentable.

"You look perfect doll..." I hadn't even noticed come back in the tent. A blush took over my cheeks for being caught in the act. Looking up from lap, I find him standing by the entrance of the tent, a small smile on his lips.

I smiled back and without saying a word patted the empty spot beside me on the cot. He walked over without hesitation and reclaimed his seat next to me.

Bucky's POV

The whole time Steve talked, I felt a huge sense of pride. My best friend was an idiot, but the only idiot that could ever do something like this. After answering all my questions, I knew Steve was still Steve. Still that small skinny kid from Brooklynn who stood up to bullies.

"Well now I'm going to be invisible next to you bud." I liked poking fun at Steve whenever I could. It felt good to hug him again, knowing we were going to be there for each other for whatever lay ahead.

"It's good to see you again pal." I said as breaking the hug. "Same here pal. Walk me out will ya? I need to go to report to Colonel Phillips for a briefing."

I noticed Steve glance back at (Y/N) as we walked out. For a second, I let my mind think the worst. They had seemed so in sync earlier. Had (Y/N) fallen for Steve? If that's the case, I'll step back. Steve deserves happiness. Even though I'll be crushed.

Steve stopped a couple feet from the tent, turned and looked at me with a smirk. "Can you please stop being such an idiot and finally tell her how you feel? She's been through a lot too Buck, though that's her story to tell. But I do have a message I was supposed to give you a long time ago, when I first left for the war. No time like the present."

"A message?" My confusion must have been evident as Steve let out a chuckle to my response.

He quickly tells me how he thought I had told (Y/N) how I felt before I left. How he let it slip. Idiot. "And then she told me to tell you that she loved you. That she should have told you earlier. To come back home safe, to be with her." Steve placed a hand on my shoulder, then turned me to face the tent.

"Now go get your girl" he said in a joking tone and pushed me towards the tent.

When I enter the tent again, I see (Y/N) trying to tidy herself up. For me. "You look perfect doll..." And that she did. A blush crept to her cheeks as she asked me to take a seat next to her. I felt pulled to her. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
